The press here in China is hilarious. Closing it's border to chicken imports to protect the Chinese people. Like it's not here already? If it is reported here, you can be damn sure it's gonna be an outta town bird.

Yeah, it tells me that tha Thai population and media are just as prone to hysterics, paranoia and overreaction as their US counterparts, or Hermie.... You won't see me stray away from chicken because of paranoid fears when I'm there in two weeks... Harry

CEO Harry Zink, Just because everybody is against me it doesn't mean I'm paranoid ! Let us all have a quiet thought for the little six year old boy who has just died. Going in with hundreds of troops to kill millions of chickens is hardly media reaction. The danger seems to be human contact with live birds (at markets). On UK TV we have had Dr 'this' and Professor 'that' warning that 'Avian Flu' could mutate and be passed human-to-human. I well remember the 'foot-and-mouth' problem amongst British beef. The carcasses were apparently OK to eat but had to be destroyed as they had no value and could pass on the disease. The action to destroy was economic, it wiped out a few farmers. I would expect the 'Thai-Chicken' experience to be similar. There have been calls for Thaksin to step-down for his surreptitious handling of the affair but he won't as he will hang on to the position as PM like a limpet!

The rumors flying around Thailand is that you can get it from eggs? I am not sure if it has been proven 100% yet or not? Krypto

As far as I am aware the disease is caught by touching live poultry (don't know if you can catch it from dead ones?). I think until eggs cough and sneeze I think it is unlikely you will catch it from an egg. You should be OK with chicken that is properly cooked (again I'm not an expert) The UK had a 'Salmonella' problem a few years back and that caused a problem with eggs. Different bug different problem ?
