Wow, is that the best you can do? Heck, you usually get more creative with your various conspiracy theories, and fabricated stories --- oh wait, you don't. Never mind.

Am I the only one that can see the irony in the idea of trying to cause "chaos" in Bangkok?

Al-Qaeda and their local buddies, the southern terrorists, are most likely to attack a Buddhist temple or the BTS for "greatest psychological impact," as well as killing as many "idol worshippers" as possible. Remember the destruction of the monumental figure of Buddha in Afghanistan by the Taliban? That was widely approved, or at least not condemned, by even relatively moderate Islamic groups. Islam only extends a tiny bit of tolerance to "people of the Book" (Christians and Jews), none at all to Buddhism, Hinduism or other non-monotheistic faiths.

Hinduism is considered to be monotheistic by many of it's followers, although beliefs and understanding do differ somewhat between groups, areas and education levels.

In any case, it doesn't pass the Islamic standard for monotheism.

Hindus are greatly disliked because they trashed the mosque in India a couple of years ago. They are still not allowed into Saudi. Only Christians, Buddhists and Druids are allowed to get visas. If LOS is ever hit in BKK or Pattaya, I believe it will be a suicide bomber with a vest full of simtex and ball bearings or a car full of explosives. I would think a disco or go-go frequented by farangs would be the optimum target. Lots of deaths and subsequent publicity on CNN, BBC, et al. Much as the Bali bombings.

Not the same group -- *none* of the attacks by AlQuaeda sponsored groups ever targetted 'idol worshippers' in the same way they targetted locales of maximum carnage opportunity. It's about body count, not ideology.

Agreed - and assuming they do their recon, I would be that they would target a place like Nana, simply because strategically it would contain any massive explosion, is crammed full of farang (the devils, you know), and will result in maximum carnage and maximum press exposure. Unfortunately, if you are thinking Al Quaeda, you won't be safe at Patpong and Soi Cowboy either, because AQ likes to do simultaneous attacks for maximum impact - though strategically speaking SC is too spread out to provide maximum density. My guess would be places like MBK or Chatuchak might be more of a target. Then again, who really know what these crazy f***ers will do next.

Exactly! Whether the speculation comes in a post to FTF or in a top-secret, eyes only report from the bowels of Langley, who really knows? To prove their credentials to the big boys in Al Qaeda, the sourthern inssurgents might target a Buddhist temple or a shopping center, marketplace, etc. However, those guys are more like a bandit gang than a real insurgent movement and aren't much given to suicide actions. Al Qaeda might hit a tourist place in Bangkok or Pattaya, but that would prompt a very significant crackdown, much tougher than anything seen up to now. What's kind of ironic is that the Grace Hotel, which used be an R&R hotel for U.S. servicemen during the Vietnam War is now an R&R location for Al Qaeda sympathizers and supporters.
