I think most of you are overeacting to things. Customs people all around the world will ask you probing questions. That is their job. Some countries might be worse then others, but it happens all around the world.
Why are you here?
Who do you work for?
Where are you going after here?
Where did you come from?
Whats in your bags?
What is this piece of gear?
Most of these guys/gals just have boring lives, and only wish they had a girlfriend in Thailand. That would apply also to some of the dike US customs chics.

Still airport security needs to be fixed bad ! The last liquid issues piss me off; no chem analysers around. Otherwise what have we done to eliminate the mad suicidial bombers out there since 9/11 and the oil wars began? que up longer lines and ask more questions, while fido the drug sniffer tries to comprehend nitro. Frick the geoligist college kid several weeks ago had a stick of dyno underneath. Nothings been done for regular air travel, box cutters were shotty screened at Logan when 9/11 occured; box cutters? @#$#%^
Otherwise we will live an existance under this sorry assed geopolitical climate fore ever. Yes the governments do know all the answers.....not !

I agree with you that the whole liquid thing should have been thought about in the past 4 years.
I long ago realized I could bring a can of some hazardous material in a normal bottle, and rig it up with a battery and cell phone, drop it in the bathroom garbage can, and then after I get off the plane ignite it. Presto...a mini IED. Does not take rocket science shit to figure that out.
But it really does not matter what technology is out there, where there is a will, there is a way.
I have even flown in the US with a Super Leatherman in my carry on. I found it in my bag AFTER flying from Orlando to JFK. Too many holes to seal. Does not matter what administration is in office, it is just how it is.

The liquid thing is tupid.
Barring everything liquid just because some explosives could be made mixing liquids is analogous to not allowing solids because explosives could be made combining different solids compounds (haven't we all seen McGyver?). Aren't semtex and C4 solid explosives? How come solids are still allowed?

A couple of trips back, my TGF thought that dyeing my hair blond would be fun, unfortunately it came out more like Nemo orange - which worked out okay, as that was her favorite movie.
But, a week later I was like a big flamehead coming through customs at SFO.
I was culled from the herd and givin the full 'welcome.' The guy was digging through my luggage, and when I tried to move my socks aside to show him something he was asking about, he just about pulled his gun on me. Then lectured me how everything in my suitcase "belonged to him, until he decided to give it back to me."
Finally at the bottom of my case he found what he had been hunting for and held the offending item up to my face - a Thai "Finding Nemo" DVD - and asked accusingly, "What's this?"
I paused briefly, remembering that I had forgotten to declare it on my customs form, then responded "It's a movie."
He opened it up, examining the label closely, "Are you sure this isn't pornography?"
"That depends..."
I could see the elation building on this guy, about to make a big bust. He nodded his head to another security guy across the aisle then asked, "On what?"
"Well, all the fish in that movie are naked."

There are far more plentiful, and easily accessable highly flamable liquids then there are solids. Solid explosives such as C4, etc are sometimes screened for via high tech, or bomb sniffing dogs. I was trying to emphasize the simplistic.

Also, the next time I come back from BKK, I think I am going to ditch any leftover condoms since the Feds seemed to mention that condoms were found on some of the sex tourists they arrested
LOL! Absolute nonsence. I make sure my suitcase is PACKED LOADED with condoms. If any US Customs officer needs one, I'll be happy to give one to him or her. The CDC would insist you have them.
Arresting perverts is a different issue.
