Tyfon, one correction, I do believe Nicole Kidman was actually born in Hawai?? She's ugly anyway

Will Smith,,, I look forward to having a drink with you either next month or January if your in BKK, I should be able to convince you that not all us Aussies are so bad. I am not that bloody hard to get along with and not usually load mouthed etc. Of the members I did meet in the Febuary RT, I seemed to offend nil.
Perhaps you have just met the worst of what we have, and I concede that our worst is pretty bloody awefull.

Either way looks like LOS will soon be open 24/7 again, now that's something to celebrate.

Lets put the Aussie bashing on another thread (possibly in the 'Z' where the gloves can come off) and focus on the original thread issue, the coup.

Mr Alan,

And the % of 'educated' Thais in Thailand are what? And did the 'educated' Thais in (for example) Chang Mai support the Coup?

Actually the only 'ringing' endorsement of the coup (that is without reservations) came from the Islamic Insurgents in the South.

More importantly than Mr Alan bashing (which would be fun if it were not so easy), will a new PM be appointed this week and will he be able to form a cabinet as the Parliament has been dissolved?

I see a potential excuse for the 'Reform Committee' to maintain the hold on political power in Thailand. Whilst the current decisions (closing hours, sale of alcohol, etc.) are nice most experts agree that if a civilian government is not installed in a timely manner the situation in BKK can deteriorate into a situation similar to that of 1992.

LOS is at a critical juncture and the decisions made in the next few days could affect all of us who have real interests there...

Hey Sarge, at least we now hold one of the two Basketball world Champions, more than can be said of the Dozeteam?
What's your demands for his release?

The ministry decided to revoke the order after being informed by the Royal Household Bureau that it does not have policy to prohibit the sales of the alcoholic drinks on the birthdays of Their Majesties the King and the Queen and those of the royal family members.
**VERY** nicely played.

Yep, you're right - closing times are bound to go out the window next, along with the rest of the social order crusade.

Nice way to really ingratiate themselves with local business, and tourists alike

I guess there'll be a new write-in candidate for the US Presidency...

This does not sound promising:

Military Drafts Consititution

{EDIT IN: Also from the Straits Times:

Students Protest Coup }

Also interesting is that Reform Comittee say a 'civilian' could include a retired military officer. We remember what happened last time they tried this.

I hope that the coup leaders are wise enough to appoint a PM who can make a clean break from the military. Otherwise, from a business standpoint, this could be very bad....

DISCLAIMER: Whilst I understand that many of the punters here are celebrating the lifiting of the bans and the late closing hours; many of our brothers have work, familes, and financial interests here so I would suggest that any celebration is premature.

Also note that the Straits Times Reference will exipre in 7 days...

just curious what the p4p scene's been like over the past couple weeks while this coup was taking place? i've heard from a thai friend that people were partying til all hours of the morning in protest of the mandated 2am closing time of bars that the old PM instituted. is that true?

** sorry, ic it's been mentioned already in this thread
