Yeah, but it's often the way - and not just in high politics. People often rise to the top of corporations and other bureaucracies because they're good at office politics and have little else to recommend them at all. The meritocracy is a myth.
When John Major was PM of the UK, I found it strange that a nation of 60 millions could produce such a staggering mediocrity as its leader.
One of Newt Gingrich's better quotes (during one of Major's deeply embarrassing trips to the States) : "You know, listening to your Prime Minister, it almost makes me feel proud of Bill Clinton."

Were you sober when you wrote this? You sound incoherant. You think a poor guy is a failure because he can not provide for his family? Maybe the guy lost his job after September 11th, maybe he got f_cked in a recent divorce. I can't believe a person can truly trust the government, they do their job halfass and wonder why 9/11 happened. I like to see non politicians get into office, maybe someone who knows how much a loaf of bread costs.
I think Bush will still win, noone wants their taxes raised, interest rates are at a 40 year low, which is great, I own 2 houses (retirement) what I like what he did was raise IRA contribution and 401k contributions.

In some respects does it really matter who the president is?
After all it is the multi nationals that call the shots in any case.
They are the modern day feudal lords and we are the serfs.
Sovereign political leaders have been usurped by big business and are really lackeys to the giant corporations.
Sure there will be some differences around the fringes but be it a Democrat or Republican president it will make little difference in the day to day life of the average Joe.

While it's true that the outcome of the election will have next to zero effect on the life of the everyday joe, and that the 2 party system is inherently corrupt, it is imperative to choose the lesser of two evils. And now with a little systematic analysis (otherwise known as smoke and mirrors) i'll splain it for ya...
D - Kennedy - banged Marilyn Monroe
R - Johnson - yeah I know he was democrat, but all those Texas guys are run by oil
R - Nixon - Crooked dude with a crooked VP
R - Ford - Ex director of the CIA
D - Carter - admitted to reading Playboy
R - Reagan - Should have won an Oscar for his performance as a president, I especially liked the 'bombing starts in 5 minutes' speech.
R - Bush 1 - ex director of the CIA also from Texas (double whammy!)
D - Clinton - Had a Bangkok nightspot named after him for crying out loud!
R - Bush 2 - dufus son of Texan ex-director of the CIA
So as you can see the democrats have a much better track record when it comes to the most important issue - Pussy!

Ford was never director of the CIA. He was in the House of Representatives for most of his career, and then appointed VP when Agnew resigned in disgrace (before Nixon resigned in disgrace) and Ford became president. Ford never won a state-wide or national election.
Johnson was never in the oil business, he was a school teacher before getting into politics. When he became president after Kennedy was assassinated, he vowed to be just like Kennedy to prove that he was no hick. He kept all of Kennedy’s aides and cabinet members, which unfortunately told him to escalate the war in Vietnam.
