How chilling is it that LS expressed caution on another thread and most, including me did not believe anything would happen in BKK after Saddam's execution?
My hunch is that those in the southern provinces have capitalized on the perception that their conflict is limited to the south. While the violence there has been increasing, it wasn't casuing overall discomfort throughout the kingdom.
Personally, if I were head of this coup I'd evac all Buddhists out of the south, give them all flame throwers and march them back in. Refreshments and a brass band would bring up the rear. Finish it. It's an internal matter, same as ousting Thaksin. Let Condie Rice piss and moan about it on CNN.

ok, sad state of affairs, but now let's see where the Baht trades when the markets open. Also see what the fast money does to the SET..... me thinks a sell off big time in both the Baht and the SET...... would not be surprised to see 100 points + shaved off the SET and the Baht trade to close to 40 to the $ over the next several weeks..... folks, over the past few months you have seen a country take 1 step forward and 4 steps back. the risk premium has risen and if al this doesn't make you feel uncomfortable investing in a country, I don't know what will...........

I cannot believe how little the US and Canadian TV news networks are covering this. Just watched CTV Newsnet and the lead story was a fluff piece about NYE celebrations in Australia and Taiwan, and the second another fluff piece about the Pope praying for "peace and justice". Finally, they got around to a short item about the bombs in Bangkok.
Mind boggling.

I wouldn't exactly consider don5252's post as necessarily that stupid (you are generally vying for such claims, yourself), for someone unfamiliar with the situation. Now, of course, there are a couple of scenarios how Thaksin and his cronies *could* instigate such a terrorist-like situation, and come out smelling like roses -- but such a scenario would require careful planning, reliable accomplices, and intelligent execution... so I guess all that considered, we can eliminate Thaksin as a suspect, as he has certainly not proven to be a strategic mastermind.
My personal opinion tends to favor someone not having paid his tea money on time, and/or some sort of organized crimelords flexing their muscles - while still an 'out there' theory.
Allegedly, they caught someone involved (any more news on that), so it's just a matter of time until they beat, I mean, interrogate the truth out of them.
