This sounds not fun !If anybody can shed a light on the cases if they were all in chicken trade or are there any outsiders ?

HL :"Jewish Penicillin" = Chicken soup.

As far as I know, the boys were hanging out *AT* a chicken farm, which explains how and why they would have gotten in contact with chicken carcasses.

Now, on to a bit of 'clue' about the 'flu' and your questions about penicillin.

Penicillin, and antibiotic, is effective against germs and microbial infections. In other words, BACTERIA.

The flu, which includes the avian kind, is caused by a VIRUS, which is not a germ/bacteria, and thus any sort of antibiotic is entirely ineffective against it.

You can stuff yourself until you burst with antiobiotics of all sorts, but you will still contract the flu if your immune system is susceptible. We have absolutely NO cures for virus infections, and they will need to run their course, and your body will need to create its own defenses. Once you had a particular type of flu, you can never get it again, as your body knows how to defend against it. Why do you keep getting 'the flu' every year? Because the virus mutates, and once mutated, the body has to re-adjust defenses (i.e. go through the cycle of infection again).

Thus, penicillin and antibiotics DO NOT WORK AGAINST THE FLU. Chicken soup certainly bolsters your immune system by feeding you, but that's about it.

(I'm always amazed how few people seem to know the difference between bacteria and a virus, seeing as how it is plastered over all doctor's offices)

Yeh, I think people just cannot believe that medical science can't cure everything. Always looking for the magic bullet.

If this thing mutates and becomes communicable we are looking at a radical change of life re: Asia.

Then watch the US $ recover.

For expates like myself living in Asia, freedom is just a taxi ride to the airport. But for Asians we know and perhaps love, it isn't so easy.

Agreed on all points. Certainly, it would be nice for the $$$ to recover, albeit it'd be at a nasty price.

Magic bullet indeed... TO THE HEAD!

Well, so ar no mutation reported, but yes, that risk is there - though I still doubt it would affect any of us in any dramatic manner. Seems like (finally) the Thai gov't has decided to forego saving face, and instead saving lives (their own, mostly), via an agressive program of chicken slaughter. Expect chicken in the streets to be dramatically cheaper

Try this for a flu-zinc, crystallized Vit C powder, echanacea golden seal, zinc, and Thai-Jewish penicillin (chix broth, galanga, onion, tomato, nam prik, nam plaa, chili, mushrooms, lime, and chicken (well, wait till the avian thing is over) or shrimp.

Like my grandma says

"It couldn't hoyt"

Sounds delicious, but will make NO DIFFERENCE if you have the flu!!!! The Zinc is great for stamina and to give you a few extra shots, and the rest is great to nourish you, but none of it makes an iota of difference FOR A VIRUS.

Doesn't anyone study basic biology anymore?

Zinc gives you a few more shots. I need some of that for those facials. Those of us who watch porn I bet Peter North must only eat zinc.

Some years back ( a long time!) I had a very bad reaction to a free flu-vacine (inhaler type) that the company gave me hoping that its staff would be off sick less. It really upset my metabolism (I don't get on well with medecines). The usual company doctor was away and had been replaced by a 'country-squire' looking Scotsman,
"Och laddie I dinnae believe in these potions! Geet yerself a bottle 'o goood whisky, go tae bed an sweat it oot ! It'll do yea noo harm unlike these modern chemicals!"
