As for APUC, you'd have though somebody might have learned something from 2am closing. But apparently not. What with encouraging the open-air Suk trade and giving preferential treatment to Patpong, the motive for all this nonsense sure as hell can't be cleaning up Bangkok's image. Perhaps it's the reverse. They want the P4P trade to be concentrated where even the most innocent of visitors can't help but see it. No more of this hiding round corners.

Not likely to do anything, but you can express your displeasure here: http://www.thai-critics.com/ A couple of random thoughts on the pending situation: Seems to me that the gov is intent on driving Nana & Soi Cowboy out of business. I don't believe that the midnight closing has anything to do with 'protecting the youth of the country' thats just a smokescreen. If there was curfew for youth, then it wouldn't matter if the bars were open all night. It's going to be tough on the bars there to extract the same amout of money in fewer hours and all of us are likely to pay for it, in higher prices and higher pressure. A bunch of protests from massage tycoons, bar owners, backpackers, tuktuk drivers, and punters isn't going to change squat. We are low level scum. Now if the mainstream tourist industry felt a threat, respectable society might do something about it... here's an idea: Let's rent one of those big billboards, preferably near the government center, with this message in Thai, English, Japanese, Chinese: Visit the Exciting Phillipines We won't tell you when to go to bed. Ideally make it a concentrated campaign. Run similar ads in the Post. They may very well assume the same campaign is being run abroad. Send out press releases to mainstream media in the states, china, japan. Put a lotta quote on how bookings are down etc. Get some press on how boring Thailand has become with the new laws, etc etc. Make it look like there is a concentrated effort to steal Thailands tourist dollars. Put some fear into them where it hurts. Set the whole thing up so Thaksin can step in and be the hero. "I put a stop to this for the good of the country blah blah blah"
