All depends on what you consider 'better'. Personally, I see nothing to indicate that the Thai economy will spiral to its doom over the next 5 years. It may do so in the short term, but those fluctuations are usually a good thing, if you're looking to buy.

Funny how in moment of great international commotions (Saddam’s execution, BKK bombings, 9/11 attack, Elvis Presley death, Lord Lucan disappearance etc..) the conspiracy lunatics have a field day, flogging their emotive convictions, wanting to believe something even in the face of mounting inconsistencies. Let’s wait for more details to emerge in the next few days before jumping to foregone conclusions.
Someone’s started a tongue in cheek thread in Z forum saying that Saddam ain’t dead, merely under a fake id and working for the CIA …. yeah maybe they’ve even flown him in to the White House for tea and biscuits with GBW and family.
Strange that none has even considered one conspiracy theory (it’s doing the round in the net) that this is all the work of the military junta so they have an excuse to cling to power and pass off even stricter financial regulations and limit civil liberties further still. Maybe we have another kinda Pakistan military junta in the making, here in Thailand.

Not to split hairs but the bomb location at Victory Monument at any time, but especially at 6pm is known as a high density population place. Try walking through there. The other marketplaces and plazas are not exactly low density either, except for the carpark. And as for the ones diffused, Khaosan Rd and Lumpini Night Bizarre, those places are also normally very crowded at night.
Apparently the bombs are simply not super strong, otherwise there would have been more casualties than there unfortunately were. I have to conclude that, like most terrorist attacks, the idea was to cause as much destruction as possible with the means available. Maybe they could've done even more, maybe they had complications. Sons of bitches, whoever they are.
I'm not sure what evidence they have to suspect 30 bombs either, but can only hope that's an overestimate. But who am I to say? I'll have to see what turns out in the next couple days here just like everyone else who lives in Bangkok.

On the contrary....several Thais raised this theory with me last night. Some of them are old enough to remember some of the stunts the military used to pull in the 'good old days'.
It's common knowledge that they want the constitution written with the proviso that the next PM can be non elected a la Kraprayoon and the NPKC.

Apart from speculations of "whodunit" - I believe there is a much deeper and more longlasting tragedy for the Kingdom if this would continue even just ever so much.
I am thinking of the country as a place where people from all over the world has found to be a great recreation resort. You do not need to be Einstein to understand that if it is suddenly regarded as a not safe place - a vast majority may very well choose somewhere else to go. The implication for the Kingdom is difficult to overlook - but surely it would be very very serious. I think about 25% of the countries incomes relates to the tourists. And people are VERY aware of threats and would likely stay away from it. Just look what happened to Egypt and Bali after foreigners were attacked. Terrible.
My prayers are that this is a very isolated day of tragic. But perhaps that is hoping too much. If the terrorists have a set plan for these incidents over time - then I am very afraid that Thailand is facing one of it´s more serious problems for a very long time. Greater than both the SARS and the economic setback in the 90´s.
My heart cries right now from anger and fear for what this means to my 2nd home country and what is to follow. But now is also a very good moment to show our support and commitment to all our Thai friends and the nation. As I said before - I will not leave no matter what they do! Bow your head in fear of terrorism - and the bastards will win! For me.... NEVER!

It is about time the situation in the south is resolved through a complete destructions of these malaysian al-queda interlopers.
for centuries this is how muslims took over countries. first through trade. then through immigration. then through trying to declare 'their own land'. then through overthrough of the government. Just look at history of every single middle eastern, north african, south asian countries.
thailand needs to be vigilant and treat these people as demons from buddha scrolls, then as friends.
