Thai authorities warned that piranhas may have been released into Bangkok's waterways, as dealers of the flesh-eating fish dumped their stashes to avoid a crackdown on trade in exotic species.
Last year when police launched a crackdown on unregistered exotic animal sales, police seized 112 piranhas and threatened legal action against traders, but owners and breeders of the fish were never found. "Thais, especially children, often swim in the rivers or canals. It would be frightening if those fish are dumped. Especially men should cover themselves well, otherwise they could be sorry for the rest of their lives." Chirdsak Vongkamolchoon, director of the Fish Trade Inspection Section, was cited by the English-language daily that fish buyers may unknowingly release piranhas' eggs into the water system when cleaning their tanks, and that the fish could survive in the country's waters.

But seriously, piranhas nipping at your schlong in the Khlong are the least of your problems.
That water is so filthy that it could killl you without any outside help. The musician (Big?) who fell into it last year is a very good example. Just a simple car crash and he ended up with some near fatal infection of the brain.

do your research.
the fish are not violent and do not attack live meat.
they are quite placid,but like rotting flesh and then go into a feeding fenzy.
if you fell into a Klong,you would frighten them off by the noise you made.
but then again the thought of an Aussie in their neck of the woods would send them swimming away VERY FAST....

done a search and read some info.
what we both said was true in a way.
but they are not a true predator which chases,attacks and kills it prey as a rule.
but they have been known to kill live animals.
but I still think that if I was wading across a River I would be safe,unless I had an oozing wound.
