Former Thai leader seeks home in Sydney

Thailand's exiled former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra has plans to move to Sydney's prosperous eastern suburbs.
The billionaire was deposed five months ago in a bloodless coup and has since engaged a Sydney property developer to find him a home, The Australian reports.
He has been unable to return to his homeland since the Thai military seized power in September, when he was attending a UN summit in New York.
"I am looking in the eastern suburbs for a property with good views of the (Sydney) harbour," Mr Thaksin told the newspaper.
He spent the weekend playing golf at the Capital Golf Club in Melbourne and The Lakes in Sydney.
"I think Sydney is very safe and I have friends here," he said.
"I like Australia. The people are friendly and sincere. The weather is good. It is clean and safe and I can play golf all year round."
Mr Thaksin said he had no interest in returning to business or politics and has no business or political interests in Australia.

Make Thai "friendly & sincere" is impossible, we cant blame Taksin on that one...
Clean environement? How do you fine the farangs if there are trash cans in the streets? Thai have the DIVINE RIGHT to throw their trash everywhere (and live in it surrounded by rats)

Yurune: well, over the last 4 years I stayed in Thailand one month every 3/4 month for my work, and now I worked hard tomake it so that I have to go only 1 month every 6 month. Having to deal/work with Thais is really a hard thing to do for me as I am a straight and honest person, so since I have a hard time adapting to their continual lies and ltotal lack of honesty I decided to diversify my activities...
Thailand is indeed a country with a fascinating culture, but the mentality of most Thai people make it impossible to any "farang" to REALLY learn about their culture:
you are not Thai = you are too stupid to understand anything = why bother to show you anything, except maybe if you give shitload of cash for every tiny little piece of teaching and accpet to be treated like shit all day long by everyone....

I have been here for seven years and get periods where I think exactly like you. On the whole I would still live nowhere else.
I have to say however that although I know many Thai people I do not have any that I would class as real friends and cannot think of any Thai that I would ring up even just to go for a drink.
The same goes for the majority of Expats I know.

You see, thats the problem with trying to fit in and be one of the boys, immerse yourself in their culture and want to be accepted as one of their own.
Sooner you realise it and get out of hippy mode, the sooner you will enjoy and have a good time.
