It seems that former PM Taksin will be pulling a page from Douglas Macarthur' book and will be returning to Thailand after Martial Law is lifted: Taksin Will Return Lacking any real proof of corruption they can not really keep him out...

Well it seems tthat Mr. Taksin still has a base. The following article is from Singapore's TODAY publication: Thai secret cells waiting to pounce Junta says opposition groups are active in areas supportive of ex-PM Thaksin BANGKOK — Thailand’s junta had detected “secret cells” aiming to destabilize the post-coup political situation in the north, where deposed Premier Thaksin Shinawatra had wide support, a report said yesterday. Third Region Army Commander, Lieutenant-General Jiradej Kotcharat, said the military found “undercurrent” cells in 17 northern provinces and was closely monitoring their political activities, reported English-language daily newspaper The Nation. “Without wind, waves do not happen,” he was quoted as saying, adding the cells were aiming to destabilise the Council for National Security — as the junta now calls itself — following the Sept 19 coup that ousted Mr Thaksin. “The emergence of opposition groups is understandable as some people lost out from the coup. But I must remind you this situation is not good for the nation, which needs to be united,” Lt-Gen Jiradej said. The reported discovery of the secret cells came amid conflicting reports over Mr Thaksin’s return to Thailand, following the bloodless putsch. The Nation, quoting a source from Mr Thaksin’s Thai Rak Thai Party, reported that Mr Thaksin had decided to return to Thailand early next month. The former Premier resigned as leader of the party last month. Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont, who was installed by the military following the coup, has said he was willing to hold talks with Mr Thaksin about his return, if he was approached to make formal arrangements. But Gen Surayud, a former army commander, also said Mr Thaksin should wait until “security issues” were resolved before looking to return. Residents of the country’s poor North and North-East are believed to still support Mr Thaksin, whose populist policies succeeded in boosting their incomes. Mr Thaksin was in New York when he was deposed, and had since been living in self-imposed exile in London, where he has a home. Last week, his legal adviser said he had travelled to Beijing to visit friends, but insisted the deposed leader would not return to Thailand in the near future, as the country still remained under martial law following the coup. — AFP Now this may just be posturing by the government or, who knows, it could get interesting...
