Fark what Uncle Sam says,, Australia will immediately be sending its 2 rubber dingies, 7 soldiers each armed with boomerangs to rid the world of this tyranny. Reality suggests this is part of the "keep the people appeased campaign" The new non elected government needs keep things calm whilst readying Thailand for new democratic elections.

So does this mean there will be public beheadings for murder, rape and other serious crimes? How about chopping off the right hand of thieves? Half of the Thai people under 25 are gonna have to eat left handed if they do this. What about stoning sinners that are caught having affairs with married people? Well, there goes the other half of the population that isn't left handed. Give me a f***ing break!!!

Actually it is probably similar to how Malaysia is run. The Christians, Taoists, Buddhists, etc. are subject only to civil law; but be a Moslem and get caught holding hands in public, look out. In reality it probably be more like the enforcement of the Sharia Laws in Indonesia and Malaysia, no beheadings, chopped hands or the like. However canings and fines for being immodest, gambling, etc. 21 Hours until I am on the plane home. Gettin out of the US just in time as Nancy Polasi is going to be the next Speaker of the House (and which would you like to have Feminazi Laws or Sharia Laws)...

I think this situation might fall under "Careful what you wish for?" - if this only applies to Muslim, and won't be done in such a manner so that ALL have to obey Sharia law, it might be interesting to see how many will remain Muslim. Of course, this might also mean that those killing monks might be subject to slightly more stringent repercussions. Either way, on atemporary basis, it can't hurt, and is probably one of the smarter decisions regarding this situation. I wonder where the line of demarcation is going to be?

In Malaysia it is quite interesting. When you are born or when you get your NRIC your religion is recorded. If you are not Muslim you can convert to Muslim anytime you wish. If you are a Muslim or a Muslim convert you cannot convert unless it is approved by the Sharia Court (which is never done). This has resulted in some interesting cases where a child was registered as a Muslim by their parents when they were a baby but as adults they adopt Christianity. Another case was when Sgt Murthy, a national hero of Indian descent, had adopted Islam early in his military career (for advancement purposes) but when he died his widow was not allowed to bury him as a Hindu although that was his stated wish. Malaysia continues to struggle with these issues, to wit, the fine line between Civil and Sharia Law.

It's ridiculous for a country to have two sets of law applying to different people. It will forever "segregate" the two populations. In Thailand's case, the ordinary thai does not want to be ruled by any other than the "King's law". The PM can say whatever he wants, but he'd better make sure he is on the same page with the King who, btw, was educated in the west. If they actually allow the south to have its own law, they might as well grant them independence, which is what the south really wants. I say instead of trying to keep them within the thai law, grant them autonomy and just tax them and leave them alone.

I don't think you'll have to worry about the other half being stoned...according to you, everyone else already lost their good throwing hand
