Potjaman Shinawatra Guilty
10.47am : The Criminal Court on Thursday found Khunying Pojaman Shinawatra guilty of intentionally avoiding a tax payment of Bt546 million for the transfer of 4.5 million shares of the Shinawatra Computer and Communications' shares worth Bt738 million. Also found guilty in the historic trial are Pojaman's brother Bannaphot Damapong and her personal secretary Kanchana Honghern. The court sentenced Pojaman and Bannaphot each to 3 years in jail.

Well, it could take years before she ever sees a prison from inside.
Fact is, though, that this is not advantageous for Taksin, now it is shown that they will prosecute against the 'elite'.

To be honest, I am VERY surprised that she was convicted - I was convinced this was just a show trial, and it would be one of those cases where it would be thrown out 'for lack of evidence'.
Not so, it seems - but DrLove is right, that it will probably take years for her to set foot in an actual prison. How does the system work in Thailand -- does she get a few appeals, while out on bail, while her husband keeps trying to change the laws?
Though, right again, this doesn't look well for Thaksin either - though again, getting convicted, and actually serving time, are two separate things.
Surprised that Samak, Thaksin's muppet, didn't intervene...

Okay, so according to ThaidUp, this was Thaksin's plan, all along, to free himself from the old Ball'n'Chain? Brilliant, except for the fact that she was also the brain behind his political and business successes, and he hasn't exactly been a genius when he's been striking out on his own (see: 'Manchester City', or the 'Cookie Can Bribes').
This does introduce a new angle to all of this, of course - might we be seeing a 'War of the Roses' play out right on the Siamese Stage?
Then again: "Thaksin lawyer saying that he has applied for bail for all 3 and they will appeal. If they can get the sentence below two years they would qualify for a suspended sentence."
