BK: I have noticed for the past couple of days when you quote a previous post, the body of the quote does not appear in your message. It isn't just me as I have noticed others that are quoting a previous post and there is no message inside their quote. Now, I guess you want a link? I'll post one when I can find one. I have been typing in the words I want to quote so it won't be one of mine. Edit in: Here's a link. The posts made by drunkentiger and bkkmaster do not have the body of the text quoted: http://bkkx.com/cgi-bin/forum/topic.cgi?forum=32&topic=44&start=60

It was an intentional feature until I figure out how to stop idiots (short of banning them) from quoting the entire message. Just want to make you copy out the paragraph or sentence yourself. Many users have complained about people quoting entire posts, just to make a one line comment.

OK, I C. Maybe some people don't realize they can highlight parts of a long post and delete it? It took me a year to figure that one out, but nobody has ever accused me of being smart.

BK, I vote, leave it the way it is now,,,, yes was very annoying opening pages that where mearly "quoted" pages of the previous page ( ROFLMAO). At least this way people need to copy and paste and therefor more likely to just copy the pieces relevant to what they wish to confer / comment upon. e.g. Just want to make you copy out the paragraph or sentence yourself. The "quote" option that WAS available leads to laziness similiar to the e-mail version of "reply to all". I will high-light a recent example at my work,,,,,,, 1) E-mail sent ( by a senior manager ) to 400 people asking for input on problem ABC. This intitial e-mail being sent to 400 people is fine,, as it was an unusual situation that was not "department specific". 2) As people replied they all took the easy option of "reply to all" !!!!!!! So for the next 10 days I recieved over 200 e-mails on the subject. 3) The final insult was when the "thank you's" started flying" of cause in "reply to all "mode. Followed by "no problem happy to help e-mails" once again in "reply to all" mode. 4) What was I to do,,,????? Of cause being the level headed, practical SOB that I am,, I replied to EVERY thank you in "reply to all mode" stating, thanks for the thanks but I didn't actually do anything. 5) What happened next,,,,, I think you know!!!!!!!!! In the end I costed out the approximate figures averaging salary costs of at AUD $90 per hour and came to a figure of AUD $36,000. This figure was sent directly to the State manager ( "NOT IN reply to all mode"). To say he was shocked would be like saying it's easy to get laid in BKK. Just this week an on-line e-mail containing an " Are you an e-mail JUNKIE " pamphlet was sent to ALL employees Nation wide> and the "reply to all" option is being investigated for removal. Sorry for "going on and on" but it is a fine example of how technology can actually screw up what it intended to make easier. Cheers,,,, after that I need a BEER.

I wrote to BK about it, and regarding his response, I could not agree more - I was more concerned that something was broken. Knowing it is intentional, and the reason behind, I am 100% in favor of maintaining the status quo.

In other words, it has now become a mechanism by which we can quickly identify individuals too dumb to post (or having a low attention span).

Have you heard of 'cut and paste'? Highlight the words you want to quote, hit CTRL-C, and theb nove to your 'Posting' screen, and hit CTRL-V, and your text magically appears, without you having to retype it.
Quote: from Mel Gibson on 8:15 pm on Mar. 29, 2006 5) What happened next,,,,, I think you know!!!!!!!!!
Seems every company has one of these incidents - same happened at my company, except that in that case, someone decided to copy all 30,000+ enployees on some 'important virus warning' (there's always ONE idiot like that), and most people decided to 'reply all', peppered with lots of 'DO NOT REPLY ANY MORE' emails, and 'THANK YOU for alerting me to not reply'. WIthin 30 minutes, our email system worldwide had been frozen, as the mail servers were filled to capacity by idiot-originated e-mails. It seems that very few people are capable of figuring out the math that a series of cascading 'REPLY ALL' results in. Anyway, we digress....
