BK, please excuse me if I am about to pose a really annoying question, but have you ever explored the possibility of allowing members to mark topics/threads as having already been read on a selective basis?
As an intermittent reader of posts since 2003, I have read many, but not all of the various topics since then and find myself looking for ones that I have not read before, only to discover that I have in fact read it before. You might say, if I can't remember, who cares. And you might be right. But I was wishing today that I had a highlighter of sorts with which to highlight a topic after I was done reading, if nothing else to remind myself never to return to it 
The other question I think has been posed recently elsewhere, which whether you can't introduce some kind of a dynamic top ten where members can click/introduce their favorites (GoGO, Bar, club, MP, OM, etc.), and it will constantly update. Again, probably too complicated, but it sure would be interesting to follow.

The design of the this software does not really accommodate for selectively marking out topics as read. And there are over 13,000 topics, so it would really clog the system down if it had to track which topics that you have read, multiply that by 40,000 members (okay, maybe 2-3,000 active members).
As for the top ten favorite, sure, will look into that.

it means you have a Private Message (PM). Click on the Messenger link somewhere on the top of the page.

Have you tried clicking on the little envelope and the text?
It will take you directly to the message which you have waiting.

I have tried both, and all I get is a wait symbol, and then nothing, same screen. Very odd. Perhaps because I have a mac book pro? The envelope is still there with its message. Ah well.
