C'mon man. I am only borderline alcoholic and I think the booze laws and closing times are utterly ridiculous, too. Not to mention hypocrite and fundamental breach of personal freedom.
I don't come here to drink and shag. I live here, and still find that drinking and shagging (and partying in general) are amongst my greatest physical pleasures - here and anywhere else.
It eases the pain of:
- Getting annoyed by the herds of unwashed backpackers and rowdy scum that roams the streets in Bangkok
- Chewing the carpet out of sheer frustration with the Thai mentality
- Finding every virgin beach polluted by trailer-trash from all over the planet.
Partying is my medicine and no man should be rightfully denied his hard-earned pain relief. Not by a government, not by a individual.

Well, as long as we agree that the same applies to a lot of other countries, including the US, England, etc... Nevertheless, so a bunch of stupid politicos are passing a bunch of, arguably, stupid, laws - this applies to all countries - so, just figure out how to work *WITHIN* those laws, instead of bitching incessantly *about* them (because, trust me, bitching ain't gonna make them change the laws).

I must be pretty weird - seeing as how I manage to have a damn good time without the need to either dull my sense, or drink myself senseless.

Part of the enjoyment of a holiday is that you can go out late and as an adult enjoy some alcohol.
With more restricted laws more booze will be consumed in less time = gettingdrunk quicker.
I drink all night sometimes but slowly to enjoy but not to get drunk.
Anyway alcohol is the only drug available in thailand its the only game in town, without risk. I am not a missionary or 100 yrs old and dont want to go to bed at 10.00 oclock.Neither do I want to spend the whole of my life stone cold sober, but also not out of it 24/7.
At home I hardly ever drink once or twice a month max, holiday is a different matter.
It has nothing to do with coming to thailand to booze all day and night, this is still possible.
It has to do with freedom to do things as you want.
I quite often go out at 2.00am or 5.00am for a drink
as im a night person unfortunately through my job thats not possible. some people will go to drink at midnight if they know they can drink all night, now we are told to start at 6.00pm and finish at 12.00 am some of us dont like it if ya know what I mean.

10 yrs ago when I first came to thailand I never noticed this circus going on on suk every night or the nana car park, just nana plaza on to all hours, its not like its near a residential area or a school
Soi cowboy is I know because my two step kids go to school close by. thats what the thai dont like kids seeing hookers at three in the afternoon and or drunken farang with said hooker.According to my father in law they will both be closed soon as they are just infested with aids ridden whores. I still go with my brother-in -law not really interested what the old geezer has to say. just give him 100 baht to shut him up now and then
