Let me make you feel a little worse.... some guys NEVER get a first visit to LoS. Some blokes just read, dream and live the experience through the field reports and first hand accounts of their mates. Other guys are lucky enough to visit, but only at irregular intervals, never knowing when there next flight will occur.... 1, 2, 3, 5, 10 years later. Other guys never get to return, suffering endlessly with BKK Fever.
Yet here you are crying the blues about a 24hr travel itinerary and only being able to make the trip once a year, twice a year max...

I am in my 20s too and leaving Thailand is always a hard thing to do. I have spent a lot of time thinking about relocating, but have so far resigned myself to the thought that I would have to spend a little more time in snowy Farangland than I care to. The land of wats, exotic beaches, and beautiful women is very addictive, but what am I to do in Thailand? At least, I am building a career over here - what would I be doing over there? The thought of being a semi-broke English teacher doing dodgy visa runs to Laos is hardly appealing.
If you are a high tech professional, why not look at the job market in Singapore? You'd be two hours away from BKK; a stone throw's away! If that's not an option, load up on booze and work your butt off to get to your next vacation.
Whatever you do, try to approach the situation rationally and avoid acting on impulse.
