This thread obviously needs to be put back on its original digression.
The hypothesis that Tom Bombadil=Aule is a very attractive one, specially as Goldberry would fit even more with Yavanna (Aule's consort), similar description and focuses. Another hypothesis is Tom Bombadil as "spirit of nature". But still, there seems to be always something about Tom that make him a strange fit in the mythology of JRRT.
For me, the openness of this question (or of others who/where are the entwives, for example ?), is what makes a lot of the charm of TOlkien's world.
BTW, as a teenager, I first really pushed myself to learn the English language only to be able to read LOTR in its original version. And I considered it at the time, one of my important lifetime acheivement to be able to do it...

Sellers trying to ape the francais 'eu' vowel (as in peuple) is always classic.
Actually the Thais have (almost) the same vowel, while English of course does not.
FIB is quite right, he does a better Clouseau than I do. However I do a better Chief Inspector Dreyfuss (Herbert Lom). Who shall we nominate for Cato? Burt Kwok is not available.

BTW I hope you will agree that "A Shot in the Dark" (made before The Pink Panther") was the best and funniest of the series. Clouseau was played almost straight (an understated klutz rather than over the top as in all the films after Pink Panther while in PP itself Sellers played him somewhere in the middle.)
Admittedly Pink Panther was almost as funny, and so essentially it is a tossup, but clearly the first two were much better than any of the follow ons.
Just as Dr No and From Russia w/Love set the standard for the James Bond series, and it was downhill from there.
