JHJ - harsh. But very funny. But harsh.
Bromad - don't get 'mad' 'Bro'...just try to back off on the cliches. Looks like you can't even FLAME another member without resorting to them: "Alligator mouth...canary ass...", etc.
Good writing is telling the truth as you see it, in your OWN style.

well, HS, after reading it again I agree, too cliched and actually rather trite. Basically it wasn't me. But I gave it my best shot.
The issue I had with JHJr is his vitriol. Never spoke to the guy in any thread and have never seen him in person. Just a bit shocked at his rather rude and over the top antics.
BTW the " alligator...canary..." cliche is that, but in some cases it is the truth. And in this case, it fits.

Well done bromad72, you seem to have grasped yet another fundamental of good writing.
It SHOULD get an emotional response from the reader. Shock, horror, a snigger, a laugh. Or, in your case, 'alligator mouth ' and 'canary ass'.
But really now, i am truly sorry if i hurt your feelings. It was harsh and I was bored. (Idle mind, devil's workshop, that sort of thing) Please accept my apology. You shan't be hearing from me no more.
Word to the wise though: if you can't handle opinions, don't solicit them.

He DID seem to be on a roll...and rapidly winding up. But what he said WAS funny, IF you were not the object of it. I can see how it might not be so hilarious, if it were MY writing being compared to a turd...

Just one or two points :-
- You asked for frank and candid opinions and then you take umbrage when JHJ tears your efforts to pieces . Did you think your penmanship was so good that all frank and candid opinions would only be full of praise ?
- If you had just told us the story without the preamble ( about you writing a novel , etc. ) it would have been taken as just that - a story . BUT a novel or literature it is not . In fact it is more like a newspaper report - interesting for the situation described but with no literary merit .
Frankly I think JHJ was being honest - although a bit rough .
