just back from Canberra myself, great drive and scenery, apart from the odd run over wallaby on the side road.
Randwick races and mono-rail ride are good stuff, instead of a cheapo Chinese, you should consider a refuelling stop at Nick's in Kings St Wharf, good atmosphere, decent nosh and great people's watching spot, loads of drinking dens around it. Give the Star City casino a miss, place for old farts (which is just as well...) and head off to La Cita bar further down the wharf, although it's supposed to be a salsa music venue, it's full of young-ish Asians chicks out on the pull (picked up a few bed warmers there). I guess your pulling days are well and truly over and you prefer wasting your dole monies on bingo machines. Either way have fun and don't forget to honour your head of state, it's her birthday's bank holiday a couple days later.

BTW, there are horse races at the famous Udon Thani course every Saturday.
You are not missing anything, but you will be advised by the experts of the goings on in LOS.
