Generally, Korean hostess clubs are more expensive and the hostesses can be a little more "hands-on," but YMMV. There are slight variations in Korean hostess clubs, including size, number of hostesses, what you're expected to order ($100+ bottles of booze, $60 fruit plates, ladies drinks and so on), what's expected as a tip, possibilities of hooking up afterward, etc., but generally the game's the same. You can find dives where you can get away with spending less than $100, and others where the minimum is $300-$500.
You might be surprised with how many there are, when you consider that they can be found in other parts of LA besides K-Town, and in the South Bay and OC. And there are also Japanese, Chinese and Vietnamese hostess clubs around town. But this Thai place is the only one I know of.

south bay ? if it's the same area i'm thinking of....kind of hard to believe there would be hostess bars in this area. what is OC ???
i like the regular clubs and bars.

Well, we learned a couple of important lessons:
- Saturday after 11pm isn't the best time to seek out the Thai hostesses bar, unless you don't mind staring at a bunch of utterly bored TGs sitting behind the bar. BTW - be prepared to enkoy Karaoke. (We decided we'll check it out again mid-week, around 8:00pm when they open).
- Chan Dara on Larchmont is the absolute BOMB regarding te quality of waitresses. Extremely cute, extremely nice. HR needs to be commended - and KillerFlix earned a pat on the back for suggesting we adjourn there for drink.
- Kruang Tet, the restaurant ocated next to Jumbo's Clown Room, had some great live music, as well as equally nice waitresses.
- Apparently, The Stone was taken over by a Pepperdyne U Frat party - tons of white, blond chicks. I'll leave it up to Ronnie, who was actually there, to give a quick recap of that.
- I think we should use the term 'PSA' for white chicks, as in 'This is a Public Service Announcement extolling the virtues of Thai Women'
Overall, it was a nice micro RT - was nice hanging out with Mokewen again, and it was great fun meeting KillerFlix - and hanging with Ronnie his buddy Jeff, and my buddy Jeff later in the evening.

I'm glad you chalked it up as "educational" (I hear the Pixies singing U-Mass in the background) :
- I was surprised there were any girls behind the bar late on a Saturday night, as I warned you guys. I stopped in late last night (Monday) for a drink and found about 8 other customers chatting up hostesses; day of the week matters less than hour of the evening as far as selection is concerned. Go early. FYI, I'm still confused about pricing here: I've been charged $5 & $7.50 for the same beer, and $16 for a small glass of wine. Also, the guys last night put the "croak" in karaoke; yet more bad Hotel California.
- Lots of eye candy at the Chan Dara's around town, and the Larchmont location has a comfortable bar. It's definitely on my list of places to drink, but not to dine -- the food is much too westernized here.
- If you're young, hip & Thai, Kruang Tedd is the place for you. Well, actually, I'm none of the above, but it's still my favorite place to hang in Thai Town. The place usually doesn't get buzzing until 11 pm, earlier on Fri & Sat nights. Best local bands in town that play Thai pop.
- The Stone was not the place to be Saturday, and unfortunately it can be dead more often than not any day of the week. But the bartenders are beautiful, particularly the Wed/Sat and Thu/Sun staff. Best night to catch it is when a Thai group is throwing a party there. Look for flyers posted outside or at KT.
- Against my better judgement I went to an after-hours Thai restaurant to listen to another Thai band. Didn't get home 'til close to 4 am.
- Finally, is anyone looking to fill an entry level civil engineering position in LA? A recent Cal St LA grad currently waitressing at KT is looking, and it would be a shame for her to return to BKK if she couldn't find a job here.
- Asian Man: South Bay includes Gardena and Torrance.

the engineer girl is moving back home ? no no no ! when ? tell her i'll take care of her when I move to LA in Feb.  is the punk singer still there ? Kruang Tedd has a killer band ( thai or us tunes ). also my fav place to hang thus far.
what is Chan Dara ? how far is Larchmont from Kruang Tedd area ?

Chan Dara is maybe 10-15 minutes driving away from Kruang Tedd.
Head to Gower, go south until you hit Melrose, turn right, turn left, head down Larchmont - it's about a mile on your left hand side.
Well worth the visit.

AM: Chan Dara is a small chain of Thai restaurants in LA. The restaurants are located in Larchmont, Hollywood, West LA and Marina Del Rey. And the blond Thai singer at KT is supposedly in BKK cutting a record.
