Don't know if this is the right place for this thread but just about lost the plot last night! I think we are all accustomed to green peas in our fried rice in Australia, but last night I ordered a Green Chicken Curry from my local Thai restaurant to be serviced a dish loaded with Cauliflower and Broccoli with little chicken! I asked the girl if she was embarrassed serving such rubbish... just got a shrug of the shoulders and walked off. As I am in the process of arranging a tourist visa for my TG, thought it would be a good idea to ask fellow board members living in Sydney for their recommendations on authentic Thai restaurants along with the location of temples and other Thai related places of interest in our great city. Suppose this would be a good topic of conversation at a round table but as that has been tried and failed in Sydney this would be the next best option. I will start off with one recommendation, a sighting & one word of mouth. 1. "Joy's" Thai Food takeaway. Third floor food Court, Macarthur Square shopping centre, Campbletown. Both "cook to order" and "ready to go" dishes. Had the Yellow Chicken curry with rice for $7.50....Fantastic! 2. Was driving south along Windsor road Castle Hill/ Baukham Hills area on Friday, heading toward the M2 on remp to the city, when out the corner on my eye on the left, saw a neon sign saying" Thai Easan Classic Restaurant" (Think that was how it was spelt, certainly was not spelt ISSAN) Haven't had the opportunity to try the fair as I live in the south, but certainly give it a go in the near future. 3. Told of a Thai supermarket on Sussex Street in the city. Suitable for all authentic Thai condiments and ingredients. Please feel free to add you recommendations and locations of any POI.

there's a nice little Thai restaurant to the right on the way up the hill towards the youth hostels, can't recall the name of the street at the moment there was also a bar serving Thai lunches on the connectiing street by Sydney Uni and toward the West on the left they had big banners out front announcing the special way back when, so not sure it's still going. Jah the cook there is a real nice gal ah, there's also Lemongrass restaurant in Sydney which is so popular, but expensive. I agree, most of the Thai food in Oz is crap, and usually the cooks are Malay and not Thai.

Hi do what I did, you must have pockets of Thai`s around Sydney as we do in Melbourne, I checked those places with my TGf and she made the call on what was good and what was not. Dont know if you have a market like we do, the Victoria market, if your TGf wants to cook at home as mine did, as she said to me her cooking was far better than the local Thai places that we both went to. I found that Springvale, Footscray are great places and the Vic market great to get Thai dvd`s and Thai food produce ect for her......She loved the Vic market, visiting twice a week, and on weekends with me to S`Vale and Ftscray. COOL DUDE King Street Newtown there's about ten or more Thai restaurants within a mile near the Uni end I'd Buy a kaffa lime plant some lemon grass plenty of CHILLI plants and go to the markets at Cabramatta for the rest of the condiments, They have it all there and it the BEST. The Thai Supermarket in College St Sydney also has all the girl needs, most Thai lady's won't want you spending all your Hard earned on Restaurant Bills, after you've bought her Down Under unless she is a Gold digger which I hope she's not! Yes the RT Never happened due to the weather and other members holidays, funny I started that idea with yourself in mind. Maybe in the Summer it would be better, at the time I was e-mailed from S05 (Beretta) and he was keen to come up to Sydney with his Lady, also Liam OZ and Mel Gibson were keen. we wanted to give you some tips from our different experiences to help you out, it's a Journey I'll tell you! Just remember mate these Thai women can be expensive to run! Visa, airfares etc and the odd thousand $ here and there for Family, though after nearly ten years Married to one I wouldn't have it any other way! I know plenty of guys with a Thai Mrs and they to are happy as a Pig in Shit!

For shopping I always take Mia Luong to the Vietnamese markets in marrickville,, have everything you want, blah rah,, EVERYTHING. The best Thai restaurant I've found near the city is in Newtown,,,,but I forget the name. If you are down south,, Cronulla has a good option,, you just ask for REAL Thai food not Farang Thai food. Well the good news is my girlfriend has been granted a tourist visa! She will be in Australia for the summer months. Now all I need to is come up with enough things for her to do, to keep her occupied while I am at work so she doesn't become too home sick. Any information on Thai community events, temples etc within Syndey would be gratefully accepted. CD

Hi jingjo, Just the standard three month tourist visa. I am waiting for my girlfriend to scan and send me. I know she will be good, but it would be nice to know where the temples are.
