The 747 Advanced. Looks like it is just a matter of time before Boeing makes it official. If I remember correctly the passenger version will be stretched about 12 feet and the freighter version approximately 17 feet. BOEING FOR THE PROCUREMENT OF NEXT GENERATION AIRCRAFT Luxembourg, 20th July 2005. - The Board of Directors of Cargolux has authorized Management to enter into negotiations with Boeing for the procurement of a minimum of 10 Boeing B747 Advanced Freighters (ADV F) for delivery beginning as of 2009. The Board decision is the culmination of a thorough and lengthy selection process. For some time, Cargolux had encouraged aircraft and engine manufacturers to build a new generation aircraft offering better economics and environmental protection. More recently, Cargolux had launched an in-depth analysis of all factors relevant to the decision, leading to the selection of a successor aircraft to the B747-400F currently operated by the company. The B747-ADV freighter will combine state-of-the-art airframe and engine technology. Environmentally, this aircraft will meet all future noise limitations and assure lowest emissions and allow Cargolux to maintain its profitability in an environment marked by very high fuel prices. Cargolux President and CEO Uli Ogiermann stated: " Management's recommendation to the Board is the result of a very thorough analysis during which we assessed which aircraft was best suited to our fleet renewal in the next decade. The fact that we enter into negotiations with the Boeing company is based purely on commercial considerations, supported by the environmental benefits the B747-ADV F offers." http://www.cargolux.com/press/press-release.htm

There will be a passenger version. There has been a great deal of renewed interest in the 747 and several of the airlines have being discussing an advanced version of the 747 with Boeing. A decision on whether or not to build it was suppose to be made later this year, but it looks like a positive decision will come sooner than later. At the moment Boeing has about 30-32 firm orders to build the present versions, the 747-400, the 747-400ER, and the "F", i.e., freighter versions of the same.

It's a good idea but according to the plans the door will be 6 inches too narrow to get her through. Never mind I like oil tankers.

Oh, I agree, but given the current technology, fuel prices, and the tree huggers, it won't happen in this lifetime, at least not mine.

Most jumbo jets already travel at more than 600 mph. Supersonic air travel (greater than 750 mph) was not really economical even when oil prices where much lower. The Concord only carried about 100 passengers (its very narrow fuselage was necessary to enable supersonic speeds) and round trip airfare between NY and London was about $10,000. Considering that NY to London is only about 7 hours by conventional aircraft, you can imagine how much a supersonic flight between the US and BKK would cost.

If they are not coming out with faster planes I would be just as happy if they would provide BG's on the flight so I could be cuming The time would fly by. You could measure the time by how many pops you got instead. I am sure they could charge a lot more for a ticket like that and would still fill the plane up. Err while I fill the BG up It could be called the pleasure class instead of economy or business class. bimmher
