Wanted to visit during Songkran in 2006. Is it always 13-15 April? Also, though I have seen info in the forum about booking Thai Rail Tickets, the link provided doesn't work. I get replies saying it's only possible to buy tickets in Thailand. Any suggestions? Anyone know a reliable Thai travel agent in BKK. Thanks in advance guys.

Yes, but dependent on how that relates to the weekends. Read the facts here: Thai New Year Looking at my firms' 2006 calendar, we'll do just the opposite of what the link suggest- we'll be on holiday from April 6th-14th. Whomever blocked that much time out is obviously a festive sort...

The songkran keep moving around expanding deepending how much money TAT try to squeese out of it. But of you book from 10-20 you will be safe. But be sure to book in time. My self I lock me inside the room for 7 days a call for fast food I hate it.

I'm done with Songkran for a few years -- too many out of control revelers, and most of all too much 'Let's dump ice water on the farang' syndrome...

Never thought Iwould say this but I agree with DD Songkran is out of control now, it is a pathetic waste of time and dangerous too.. So funny to make folk fall off their motorbikes by throwing ice water in their faces... It needs to be outlawed, I stay in for the couple of days we have it here in Rawai, but luckily I will be away at work for this years waste of time. Bash

Officially Songkran is April 13, 14 and 15th and is the same every year. However some province (notably Pattaya) celebrate at different times. This year will be shorter since 15th is a staurday. So only 13 and 14th are public holidays.

Songkran in the provinces is still fun, but in Phuket where I have spent many it is shite. Bangkok is a lot better, but even then it's a pain in the ass. at least we don't have to work.....

But different province has set its own date which is not far apart from the original period.
