Good! At least you are in the road to recovery. First step is to admit it.

Now, get your ass out of that lazy-boy chair of yours and come out for a drink. We do not have much time. There is only a couple hours of sunlight left. Better to drink during the day... it doesn't feel like we are really drinking... but just contemplating the passage of time.

you will not be able to renew your CDN pp, unless there are 6 months or less of validity left

I wonder if that's also the rule for most countries? If it is, you have to admire the brilliance of the thing. Yes, that's right sir, you won't be able to enter a foreign country unless you have 6 mos or more remaining on your passport. And no, we can't possibly renew your passport unless you have 6 mos or less.

i live for bureacrats like this its quite a challenge getting them to think originally

if you want real fun try being a brit
unless you are famous or important the embassy does sweet FA for you

Manuel bkk now if you are getting trouble because your passport was issued in an embassy instead of your home country just use a white lie

"yes sir I was mugged in that country and had all my cards money and passport taken the embassy issued me with a new passport"

or next time your home you can lose it and get another one issued

next time your in LOS cover your self with dirt and sh_t wear dirty smelling clothes and go down to khao san road and sell the passport you lost !!!

it will pay for a few bears etc

It's not so bad. Wait until 6 months 'til death, then mail it in requesting express service. A few dollars more, but shortens your effective blackout period to a week or two.

Or come Thailand with 6 months plus a day, then throw it in a khlong and go ask the embassy to give you a new one.

Last week a colleague of mine was off to Singapore for a few days on business. Since the company was paying for him & hotel, expenses etc, he decided to pay the extra airfare & take the wife & two young kids along.
He turned up at Taipei airport and was turned away at immigration because he only had 5.5 months on his passport before expiry. This caused all sorts of inconvenience.
Does anybody know why this rule exists? It seems rather petty to me!

Arcadius....another sci-fi scenario might occur when you leave, say Vancouver just outside the 6 month limit and then flying across the international date line, you gain a day and when you land, some junior immigration official catches a 'big fish' wetback trying to 'sneak' in the country.

But....but...but....no sh_t!

Sometimes the biggest criminals are right in front of your face, with sunglasses, a Hawaiian shirt, sandels and a suitcase full of viagra.

You just got to be able to read the fine print.

At a guess, maybe because the duration of a visa is very often 3 months, plus whatever internal extensions you can do, coming out to more or less 6 months. It may keep the issuing country from having to reissue partial visas after someone renews a passport.

Just a guess.
It's does seem petty, but I guess you have to draw the line somewhere.
