Dude, thats a great idea. Will get the overnite sleeper down from BKK to Surat thani then cab to Krabi or Phuket. Then on the return will fly back so as not to waste any time!!!

Another successful trip to Pattaya from the Northern (Mo Chit sky train station) bus station, 97B left right on time at 2:30 and arrived exactly 1 hr 45 mins later at tha Pattaya bus station and NO STRESS!!! Highly recommended as there is no train or plane coming here (as far as I know)

Eight years ago while on an overnight bus from Surat Thani to Bangkok, I noticed the "stewardess" filling a hypodermic needle with something made from a white powder. She then proceeded to the front of the bus, the passengers were all asleep, and gave the driver an injection. What was it? I don't know. The driver did NOT fall asleep and drove like a bat out of hell...we arrived in BKK without any problem. I did not sleep that night.

Dont know what bus we took to Pattaya out of bangkok, but it stoped at every little f_cking watering hole between BKK &Pattaya. still bout 2 hours in all got off between north & south Pattaya hopped a pickup (covered) down to south Pattaya. Won't do that again...

last time I took taxi between pattaya and bangkok, for about 1600 THB. It looked safe but I noticed that on each way, the 2 drivers I had were drinking what looked like some king of medicine from a bottle looking like it had been bought in a chemist shop. My interpretation was that it was something to prevent them from falling asleep...
My worry was that:
- first, it meant that they were already tired during daytime,
- second, that they might get too nervous and not drive safely (in fact the first driver seemed to be very nervous while driving).

el frances, everybody & his sister is drinking those energy drinks from small bottles with funny scripts/drawing on them. standard accessory for bus/taxi drivers & many other workers...
don't worry too much & no need to pay more than 800bt for taxi bkk-pty or vice versa.
