These days I stick to CX, JAL, and SQ when travelling internationally. In country, one is obliged to take THAI which is usually fine.
Always good to get some perspective from the air crew. With so many lbogs around, any airline that doesn't look after its flight crew, is bound to get written up.

Pardon the segue, but has anyone taken a GF or gik with them to Hong Kong and can tell me what visa reqs. there are for the girls? Can a Thai get in for a weekend jaunt with an automatic tourist visa, or are we gonna need to visit an embassy here first?
I know she's got a passport already- just the visa info is neccessary.

I'd be interested in the answer to Skip's question as well. I've heard no visa in advance is needed as long as TG has a return ticket and she and you pass through immigration together - i.e., you guarantee her stay. I'ver heard it is best if TG is carrying a few hundred bucks cash (i.e. your money). Anyone have recent, direct experience of this? Point is, while TG's don't need a visa in advance for HK, the immigration authorities can refuse her entry if they suspect she's coming to earn money rather than spend it.

No problems bringing TG (GF or gik) along. They get an automatic 30-day visa. Since you don't look like a pimp, there is no reason to think that she would be there to work. 
Wharney Guangdong is my favorite. Watch out for holidays though, as the prices vary greatly from the normal rates.

last time TGF went to HK with me, she was stopped by official 'cos she was few yards behind me when we were walking from arrival gate to immigration.
When he realised we were together, then no problem. At the time, she was wearing LOS casual gear so maybe attracted wrong attention from the official, maybe ???

I don't know if they eliminated it, my flight was originally scheduled to stop for an hour w/o plan change, but when I was checking in they informed be they weren't stopping in HNL. Maybe there were no pax to pick up in HNL that day.
