Last time I checked to the East of Bangkok there was no coastline. Now, if you walk to the SE thats a different story. Take a compass with you so you keep in a straight line. fyi, Rayong is SE of Bangkok and you are correct it has a coastline.

Being a short-stay tourist, you need time + money to enjoy your stay in Thailand. Never mind about the money part as you said you would still pay her regardless. However, following her to Issan is a waste of your valuable time.
This girl wanted to bring you to see her family and furthermore told you Issan pretty close to Chiang Mai, she obviously put her interest ahead of yours.
This is Thailand, buddy. It is absolutely no need to play super nice guy with an MP girl. With bahts in the pocket, you are the one to call the shot, not her.
If you are just curious to check out her family+ sick buffalo, don't go. If you are madly in love with this girl, still don't go.
Been there before. Stupid me learned the lesson the hard way.

Take words of caution wisely...Don't go.
If you go with this girl, you will be expected to pay, and pay, and pay. You will meet all the family including uncles, cousins, brothers and probably her husband. I must dissagree, Isaan can be a wonderful place to see the "real" Thailand. People in general are very friendly and you will see and be involved in a real Family atmosphere.
Yes, you may have to pay for a few chickens a small pig and Sang som but it won't hurt your budget badly ( Isaan prices are about 30% of BKK prices).
If you get board or the family is giving you the shits,, get a bus across to Cambodia

There are exceptions to this rule of course. I have been to Isarn several times and have never been offered whiskey at the in-laws house. They have provided coke, sprite and some fanta drink every time at their expense. I have never seen anything to indicate that anyone in her immeidate family drinks alcohol. I have looked for bottles in the yard or in the home.
We did stop once in Prasad and purchased some fruit and cooking oil at a cost of 70 baht. Just keep your guard up and expecet the worse. You never know. The tg is now back in the states with me and we were married on Feb 10. I paid no dowry, did not have a Thai wedding, and her family is very supportive of her being in America. I will at some point put together a field report.
