Check to see if you get frequent flyer miles with this fare. From the USA you don't I've flown SIA last month BKK to SIN. Good flight, decent food. If you have overnight in S'pore airport book the transit hotel. good room cheap prices.

I've been Flying Cathay Pacific and been quite satisfied until last trip Nov.   How is seat comfort in economy class on Singapore Airlines?

Go to http://www.flyertalk.com forum for anything related to airlines. The link for Singapore airlines is http://www.flyertalk.com/travelfr.shtml -actually, this is not the link to the SIA forum; somehow the url on the address window remains the same while navigating the site. You will have to navigate and select the "miles" forum and there you will find all the airlines, then click on Singapore Airlines. İYou can ask any question and someone will have an answer, down to comparing menus and what seat is the best depending of the kind of metal flown

Cal Eden,

comfort of the seats in economy shouldn't vary much from airline to airline but it does make a difference between the kind of planes that you board. if you are flying in from US to Singapore you should be transiting in Japan first before heading straight to Singapore and the planes are usually 747-400, 777-400 or the Airbus 340 in which are the wider bodied plane thus more spacious in air plane terms.

SIA's smallest planes would be the Airbus A310.

if you can request for the exit seats as there will be all the room for your leg to be.

CalEden,
You are welcome. Don't I always give you good info guys ?

Delta,
Sorry, but I disagree with you. Seats in economy vary from airline to airline even for the same type of metal. İFor example, the first batch of 777-200 that Thai Air got has a configuration with more seats cramped in the same space than for the same equipment at other airlines. In terms of best economy seats IMO Emirates has the more comfortable ones.

When considering exit-row seats, look at the specific plane. Take into account the following: the tray will likely come out from the arm-rest (the tray in the seat in front may not be available) -if you are a big guy you may not like this as your thigts have no extra space under the arm rest. If there are two exit-row seats (in the wings) one behind the other, the seats in the first exit row may not recline (this is to insure not blocking the exit row behind)

In wide body planes I prefer to ask for an aisle seat in the center section, thus increasing the chances that the seat next to me is empty. If you get an aisle seat next to a window, you are more likely to get a couple seated next to you. If you are flying with somebody else, ask for 2 aisles in the same row in the center section -unless flight is really full, you will not get anyone seated between you two; and if you do...well, if you want to be next to each other, the other person will happily switch.

The seats in Cathay Pacific 747-400 have the controls for personal TV on the side of armrest. Thus narrowing the already tight width of the seat.  The seats on Southwest have more hip room than Cathy Pacific and thats crazy on a 16 hour flight.  No wonder people get blood clots on long flights.  The Cathay Fights are always  completely full too, so your stuck.  I always get bulkhead aisle, although near toilet.   Cathay's service and food quality has gone downhill.

I just went on Cathay from New York to BKK and back. Great flight and service. 24 hour flight time. This is a serious journey and puts the airline and aircraft to the test.
747-400. Went economy for USD 750. Will do it again later this year if I can get the same deal.

Smegma,

i see...but how would you know that the 777-200 is not a 777-238 (different configuration) instead. still series 200 but last two digits can mean modifications to anything on the plane thus shouldn't vary much.

some times you see on the plane its a 747-400 but actually to the airline and makers its a 744-438.

know where you are coming from though.....
