Quote: from stuckinapub on 8:19 am on Aug. 4, 2004 BLACK CATS I received a 1000 yen coupon for use in any airport restaurant for the "inconvenience" this is standard IATA practice if an airline delays you by a set period you are entitled to a meal coupon it usually only covers the cost of a sandwhich and a soft drink I think the value is set at USD 2.5
Well there's the difference between American and Japanese businesses again. United leaves their customers in the dark and JAL accepts responsibility. Didn't know about the IATA thing. $2.5 won't buy you food and a drink anywhere in most American airports and 1000 yen is worth almost $10. Oh well, that's still a good tip for the next time an airline screws me. Thanks.

IATA International Air Transport Association not compulsory but the better airlines usually join it they have a good website http://www.iata.org/index.htm

BKK Banger

Just had a FR on the Phuket Air flight from Gatwick to BKK from an old friend. He paid 400 GBP (about 30,000 Baht) in London. The plane stopped in Dubai on the way here for 2 hours to refuel and stretch the legs. Plane was old, ex Oman Air 747-200, but comfortable and well maintained. The staff were Thai, attentive and pleasant. He really rated it as an alternative to economy in Thai. One way from here is about 12,000+++ so reckon on 13,000 all up. Return is about 23,000 all up incl Tax and insurance. Depends on your booking class of course and PA fills up fast. I will take it in a few weeks (jumped the queue, I know the lady responsible for the queue) so may report on it. Normally I would not fly Economy but my lady is insisting we save money and give them a try. Alternative is Etihart via Abu Dhabi business class two return tickets 30 day validity for 55,000 Baht. Now that is hard to beat.
