jjsushi, Being a 1K, how often do you get upgraded to biz class on international flights without requesting it? I know on domestic flights, they don't upgrade you unless they are overbooked. You would normally have to use your 500 mile upgrades but they don't work on international flights. I am a premier exec and got upgraded on one of my legs to bkk without asking and so did my buddy. thanks

I think it is pretty rare to get op upgraded on US-NRT-BKK flights. These flights are almost always full in every classI think in the last 4 years as a 1K, I have been op-up 4 times going to BKK ( 3 to biz and 1 to first). This route has way too many full fare and high status MP members that can support their upgrades. Unless coach is severely oversold and there is plenty of space in biz or FC there is really no need to op-up. I make it a point to ask the reps what the passenger loads look like when I ticket or how long the wait list is to upgrade. This way I have a good idea of if I will clear.

I'm also a big Cathy fan....have been flying them for 35 years. In the old days it was economy but in recent years business with an occasional upgrade to first class. Why do I like CX? 1) the hard working lassies come from all over the Far East, 2) Hong Kong's airport is much better than Narita (anything would be), 3) Cathy has the best films, 4) Cathy's wines are about as good as you can get in the sky, 5) the chaps driving up front are Australian, Canadian, or Brits (a bit of racial prejudice I guess). Of course, we always buy our tickets in LOS...couldn't afford business class otherwise.

During SARS I was hacking around my travel dates to BKK from LAX and got a RT for $168 US out the door price. I thought Expedia was F'd Up and called and Cathy at the time was discounting for a half day. Bros got too greedy and it closed at 5:30 PM while they were loading up 4 trips. It had a fly and return by later Sept that 2003 year. So far Cathy at $563 price is great but you have to return by April. Taxes will put it back around $6ish though. UA flights have been high lately. Only China Air's been $720 from LAX. I prefer UA miles and also shorter trip to Narita from SEA sans the bumpy turbulence over the Gulf of Alaska vs. going to Taipai or Hong Kong. I wish they would fly over to Honolulu-Manila-Bangkok; Phillipine Air but at a price $$$$. Cant get any better than that for wet wanting pussy. Prices should fall cause high season will be done. Oh try http://www.bt-store.com/ a bro posted it. As usual I will get out of USA by 6th month due to Thai pussy desperation. Today at the post office 2 Thai chicks came in with thier mans. Tawny looking sweet stuff.

Quote: from CalEden on 10:38 pm on Jan. 19, 2005 On Cathay Pacific Bargain Fares you can not collect FF miles.
Incorrect. All Cathay economy fares including deals of the month are eligible for asia miles. (www.asiamiles.com) which can be used on future Cathay flights or on any carrier in the one world alliance. Sometimes Cathay's "deals of the month" do not allow freq flyer milage for AA but almost always the miles can be used for asia miles on any Cathay ticket.

UA has been high lately out of SEA. Best I could come up with out of SEA for May was China at 798 out the door and I only found it on Oribitz. Everything else was higher
