Cathay Pacific is offering 17 Asian cities for as low as USD$999. There are some travel date restrictions but still seems to be a very good value. It includes flights from several cities in USA and Vancouver BC Canada, to Hong Kong, to start the journey. Seems like a great value for those wanting to see more than just Thailand. http://www.cathay-usa.com/offers/aap/subdefault.asp

That's not really that good of a deal. If you get into the fine print, that price doesn't include any taxes, or airport fees. In the 21 day max length of the travel time, you might get in 3, maybe 4 stops out of the 18. Booking your asian flights from some of these local new discount airlines, like asia air can be quite a bit cheaper cheaper.

I've looked into this before, and I tend to agree with koolbreez. It's not a terrible deal if you want fly all over the place, but you can probably find better if you're willing to work with a travelagent, esp. one from SEA. At any rate, you can assume that the $999 bait price will be an easy $1,200 after taxes and fees and if you require a flight to any of their gateway cities it can easily climb to $1,500 or so with everything included. If you choose add-on cities then the price can quicly climb to $2,000 plus. ML offers a similar service to CX, and even SQ offers mainline RTW tickets once you hit the $2,200 range, and those tickets allow you to collect FFM (unlike the CX offer). Another option is the Asia Pass, which lets you buy multiple flight coupons for intra-Asian flights at a discount. However, the Asia Pass offer is not always in force and can be inactive for a year or more in some cases. In the end, if you have the patience to deal with a travel agent from SEA, you can probably work out an inter-line RTW ticket for a similar price to the CX offer (after taxes and fees) and be able to choose from several airlines and collect FFM the whole way. It might be better to go that route if you have the time to plan it and have the time to fly it. For more information just search for an airfare forum. There are many out there, and each has its own insights into the airfare systems.

Just booked Cathay Pacific round trip ticket from San Francisco to BKK via bt-store.com. Only 850 including tax and everything. It's little high because departure date is in August. Orbiz.com offers even cheaper price (under 700) if your departure date is in September or later.

Joybkk, I have not heard of bt-store.com before. Is this a West coast (SF or LA) "bucket shop"? Do they have a good track record from your perspective? Thanks a lot for the help. Diddler

It was my first time to use bt-store.com. See my other post about the flight from USA to BKK. http://bkkx.com/cgi-bin/forum/topic.cgi?forum=27&topic=271&start=30 Someone mentioned about this site and it worked great. I do not know if they are a "Bucket shop" or not. Any questions I asked via e-mail, they responded within a few hours. One thing you have to be careful about bt-store.com is travel dates. They automatically search +-1 day of your departure and arrival so you have to make sure that the travel dates returning from their search engine is what you really want or not. If you look at the above thread, someone also mention about other travel agency that offers a round trip ticket from usa to bkk starting from $555. I didn't try this site because I saw it after I purchased the ticket You might want to call them and check it out.

Cathay Pacific is a good airline to fly on. What I don't like about there air pass, you have to fly back to Hong Kong to make connections.

ML's is the same way, but with KUL as the transfer point. If you want to avoid the same gateway over and over then consider buying a RTW (Round The World) ticket from Star Alliance or oneWorld. That way you can just pick the specific airline that has a direct flight for each leg (most of the time). Visit flyertalk for a quick intro.
