Rob,
I think a good route for you would be dublin-amsterdam-bangkok.
I have the number of a China airlines preferred booking agent in the u.k. that should be able to help you out, probably klm to AMS.
From the uk about £475 standard class and £795 business class.
PM me if you want their contact number, I have used them for about 5 years now always managed to get me a flight even during the busy periods.
Sign up for the China-airlines frequent flyer program and you get back full airmiles about 11,000. worth about £100 when you use for upgrades

Hi Rob,

Surprise, Surprise, there are no direct flights Irland.

Looking at Ebookers and Expedia I compared prices and Ebookers came out best, and comparing airports, Dublin v Belfast, Dublin came out on top, http://www.ebookers.ie offer Swiss Air Dublin to Bangkok via Bonn return for 778 EUR (530 GBP) and Shrilankan Belfast to Bangkok Via London, Male (Maldives) & Colombo for 580 GBP.

Furthermore the outbound flight with Shrilankan takes over 30 hour as opposed to 20 with Swiss Air, there are plenty of other internet sites like Ebookers & Expedia out there so a good place to start would be “GOOGLE”.

When booking;
- Consider the airline for comfort and service as you will spend over 12hours flying so if the airline is a cheep one then expect cheep service, I mean would you want to fly a buget airline type service where you had to buy meals, drinks and snacks at inflated prices and have to pay for the use of the headphones for the 3rd rate inflight entertainment???
- Cheek transit times of all stopovers, waiting around at airports can be very boring, also check dates as some stopovers can be in excess of 24hrs!!!

My worst experience was flying with Kuwait Air as I had no warning that this was a no alcohol flight, passengers were relived of all duty free alcohol and frisked for hip flasks etc, the inflight entertainment package was 3rd rate and the seating very uncomfortable.

To make things worse was the 6 hour stopover at Kuwait city Airport also an alcohol free zone, every wall had a sign indicating the way to the nearest bomb shelter, with only a cafeteria (no hot meals, food was not at all appetizing) and a duty free which only sold perfume and cigarettes that made this one airport I never want to see again.

There again not all Arab airlines are that bad, I fly frequently with Emirates and the service is superb with plenty of alcohol, Dubai Airport is also a lot nicer than Kuwait and with my frequent flier card I have access to the lounge which makes the stopovers more pleasant.

Emirates do not at present fly from Ireland but I have heard on another forum they may soon do so.

Any way whoever you fly with have a pleasant trip.

BB

I would suggest going through Heathrow with Eva Air. 33" seat pitch in economy.

Basil Bush,

That sounded terrible. Ugg! Hope you never have to put up with that shit again. It makes every airport I've ever been too sound like paradise, and that even includes LHR. Sheesh.
