Apologies go in advance to the thread police if I have posted in the wrong area, wasn't sure if this came under Travel or Hotels or Outside Bangkok .... I am looking for a beach bungalow, with aircon, on a resort or not is fine, but I either want a big 2/3 bedroom one suitable for 3 adults and 4 kids, or I need 2 small ones. I have a car so no problem in travelling, the only really important requisites are; 1. That it's right on the beach - I mean literally stepping out onto the sand..direct sea view 2. It's not a shithole backpacker paradise/slum 3. It's clean and young kid friendly Anywhere along that coastline within 5-6 hrs drive of Bangkok is fine. I'm looking at a 4D/3N long wekeend within the next 6-8 weeks. Budget...i'm looking at spending between 3K-5K per night - accommodation only. Anybody know of any treasures ? I've reviewed Sunset Village - http://www.sunsetvillage.co.th/accommondation.asp - which looks ideal accommodation wise, but is the sea clean in that area, I mean it's not far from Pattaya and the sea there ain't worthy ! Any help from the bro's is as always, well appreciated

Your thread probably belongs in "Elsewhere in Thailand", BK will probably move it there eventually. Search the Pattaya section for info on Sunset Village. It's OK for a day or two, but you'll be bored. Also, search the "Elsewhere in Thailand" section for Samed Villa on Koh Samet. It is right on the beach and everything you are asking for. Further down Koh Chang is even better and has tons of bungalows on the beach. At your price point, it is no problem. Siam Bay Resort between Kar Bae and lonely Beach has everything you want and a great pool too - http://www.siambayresort.in.th. Or you can try Mam Kai Bae Beach resort right next door which I really like (no pool though). If you see a TG with a PADI card walking down this beach towards the dive shop wearing a Colorado Rockies baseball jersey, it's Dew - tell her I miss her too much! As always on Koh Chang, book in for a night or two then move on somewhere else if you don't like it. You'll be in your car so mobility is not a problem.

Koh Chang would be my recommendation - aim for White Sand Beach. I've had good luck with Koh Chang Lagoon, but make sure you book your room with them directly, not via some booking website - and be sure to call, and not email. Long story, but the booking online agencies seem to suck, and their email links doesn't always work. When I called and booked directly, it worked. It's a very nice resort, right on the beach, right in the middle of everything. With your car, you can take a leisurely ride down to Bang Bao fishing village / pier, and several other nice beaches - and don't ignore the other side of the island. It's kinda dead (i.e. no farang), but has a very interesting charm on its own, with other things to see.
