Wellness centre eyes foreigners
=========================

Piyavate Hospital is investing Bt500 million in a "new age" health clinic on Rama IX Road.

Claimed to be one of the largest and most advanced "wellness" centres in Asia, it is scheduled to open in May and aims to attract affluent expatriates and tourists.

The project - TRIA Integrative Wellness - is housed in a four-storey building and combines medical technology with traditional healing therapies, as well as nutrition and fitness programmes.

It will boost Thai's medical tourism industry, where foreign patients are attracted for treatment and leisure activities and the hospital is increasingly focusing on complementary and alternative medicines (CAM).

Marketing director Nalin Vanasin said the centre would bring together more than 30 physicians, CAM practitioners, massage experts, sport-science trainers, counsellors and "life coaches" to cover all aspects of health.

The philosophy is that all-round health requires the harmony of three components: the elemental, structural and emotional. TRIA will offer around 200 services costing between Bt1,000 and Bt50,000, said Nalin, adding that the hospital aimed to generate revenue of Bt100 million in its first year.

The centre is due to focus on three major groups: Thais aged over 35, tourists from Europe and Asia and expatriates.

We will cater not only for clients wanting a traditional luxury spa service or beauty treatment but also people who want hormone testing and therapies, including anti-ageing or genetic tests," said Nalin.

Hydrotherapy, body work, beauty treatments and healthy cuisine will be on offer alongside early detection and other integrated medical services.

The 13,000-sq metre centre will include 20 medical consultation rooms, 40 rooms for massage and other treatments, four hydrotherapy pools, a 20-metre outdoor pool, a gym with functional training equipment and four restaurants.

First Thai holistic longevity health resort opens
--------------------------------------------------------------

A British car-trader has joined with a local investor to open the country's fist holistic medical and longevity health resort worth Bt150 million in Chachoengsao, with the goal of bringing in Bt100 million in the first year.

Stephen Griffiths had often come to Thailand on vacation and seized the opportunity to invest here when he met a local health-products businessman, whom he would not name.

Griffiths said he had been managing a condominium in Pattaya in Chon Buri as his first venture here before entering the health field.

The 14-rai Rainbow Arokaya Holistic Medical and Longevity Health Centre is located on a bank of the Bang Pakong River in Bang Khla district in Chachoengsao.

It features a clinic, healing spa, holistic and meditation centre, accommodation and natural far-infrared and minus-ion detoxification facilities using a Japanese volcanic stone for healing.

"We are the first place in Thailand using volcanic mineral stone. This service is charged at Bt4,500 per eight to 10 minutes, so the price is pretty high, but we expect this imported product will become popular in the future," Griffiths said.

The 1,000-kilogram stone costs Bt10 billion. It is not yet approved by the Food and Drug Administration.

Griffiths claims it is popular in Japan and is proven as helping in healing.

Revenue will be come from two sources, members and general customers.

The centre already has 100 members and plans to end the year with 500. Three-year memberships go for Bt120,000-Bt250,000 depending on what products and services are used.

Most of the members are locals and Japanese expats working in vehicle-assembly plants nearby.

The centre plans to attract more international clients by participating in overseas travel expos such as the International Travel Boerse in Germany, World Travel Mart in London and Arabian Travel Mart in the Middle East.

Griffiths said the joint venture was looking to develop at least four projects, in Bangkok on Phetburi Road, in Chiang Mai, in Phuket and in Krabi.

"We will start with the Bangkok project probably in June. The rest will follow," he said.

The recent opening of Suvarnabhumi Airport and the recovery of tourism in Pattaya are positive factors encouraging investors to set up business in the province, he added.

German spa makes its debut
======================

Local and German investors have lavished Bt16 million to open the first German-style spa - Relax One Hour - in Bangkok, aimed at serving both locals and tourists with a combination of Thai and Western treatment.

The Surawong Road wellness centre is the first overseas venture of the Berlin-based Relax One Hour Group, which has been operating in Germany's tourism industry for years.

Karsten Wandslebe, managing director of Relax One Hour Co, said last week that the local investor had put in 51 per cent while he and Stefan Kraft, the major shareholder, contributed the rest.

The spa would focus on a new niche in the wellness business by blending Thai, Swedish and German treatments.

" We will kick off our service and brand here as well as develop a franchise network within one year," Wandslebe said.

The company plans to launch international marketing within three years, as well as open branches in other countries such as Japan.

The spa is offering a special jet-lag massage, called the big healer, which starts with German techniques to detect muscular problems and leads to a reduction of tension in the legs and back.

The spa would serve as a therapist training centre to prepare for expansion abroad as well as to meet demand in Germany.

The spa is targeting the middle market with prices starting at Bt390 for a 30-minute course and going up to Bt6,000 for 150 minutes.

The half-hour session is innovative in that it uses a pair of therapists for foot massages.

Massages feature the ancient German tradition of connective-tissue massage together with the deep impact of Thai techniques.

Wandslebe said Bangkok already had a wide array of spa and massage outlets.

And the German team expects Bangkok to become the first international wellness capital.

The spa also features specially produced herbal products for facial care, as well as a separate product line for men that restores a fresh and healthy look using exclusive Australian "Vitaman" products for massage.

They said 'fresh and healthy', not 'putrid and rank', or are you saying that you use Vegemite™ as a skin cream and a body rub?

This is what they are talking about:

Thought I'd BUMP this thread back up, any experience, updates, rumours?
Coming in next week, had been going to Bumrungrad but, last time, to Samitijev. Had a complete physical done, including full blood work (testosterone, GH factors, etc.) and a brain scan to determine a "base line", having just turned 50. My Doc was willing to put me on a cycle of HGH, but declined Test due to a slightly enlarged prostate. I decided to wait till this next trip before deciding on the HGH.
Also, any experiences specific to an HGH cycle. Please, no Barry Bonds "shots". Good friends, including M.D.'s suggest occasional cycles are probably benign, and certainly beneficial.
Thanks
