Coming from a totally civilized modern western society, I am a little naive in the proper disposal of toilet tissue in a third world country (5 star Hotel?) and have made some observations of what is customary amongst the natives, yet still unclear of certain toilet issues.
Whilst in Thailand I noticed most of the the Thai lasses used the rubbish bin for soiled toilet tissue rather than flushing down the loo. I did not notice any brown stripe toilet tissue in the rubbish.....I did not do any detailed examination.....just totally casual or happen stance. Is flushing acceptable/proper in Bangkok.....up country? Do you just flush the fecal soiled tissue and use the rubbish bin for the not so obvious waste tissue? Is there a special folding technique to obscure the fecal matter and odour?
Is it proper to stand on the loo? Do you lift the seat before standing? What is the best way to remove the shoe prints from the porcelain loo?
The only time I used the toilet spray hose is after a fecal movement and there was not any paper to do a proper cleaning. I positioned the water spray from the front to the rear and to my shock and dismay, I sprayed the toilet tank a chunky tea brown.......too much detail.
Please enlighten me to the proper third world toilet etiquette. You maybe saving yourself from the above visual.

The best is the Japanese toilet that has a totally computerized cycle of water, dryer and deorderizer. They are in the Grand Hyatt function room bathrooms.

I began using the hose on my first appearance in LOS in the mid 70s. After some trial and error, I discovered the proper way to take care of the lingering solution, as it were, and my bum has never been happier.
I have installed them in every house I have either owned or lived in for any period of time since then.

A spray hose tapped at the toilets water valve is a real cheap plumbing solution to having both toilet and bidet in bathroom. Spray hose is great way to clean up messes as well; sanitation..... I still wouldnt own a Thai squat low slung open porcelain.... cheap to purchase and install I guess...but a real pain in the ass when your drunk ass is aiming wrong ! 
As to tissue in the waste can ? ladies wrap their Kotex up and throw them out that way; #1 plumbers call out ? they have to snake out the clogged Kotex sticks.... bottom tissue gets disposed down the leu.... some bungalos, baans or hotel rooms have poorly designed waste drains, hoses or pipes either too small or rainy season backs em up from the streets main end; Koh Samui plumbing mains at sea level and Bangkok around the river klongs.....tissue gets tossed in the can then, cause no one wants backed up toilet
Good $$$ in honey wagons or septic hauler pump trucks, aka turd suckers ! big vacuum tanks with industrial snakes

If you eat spicy hot chilli Issan, Mexican, or Indian food...spraying cooler water on the bumm helps lessen the rear heat diaper rash 
Thai tolet paper is thin and can cause dingle ball build ups... and spray hose pressure can be regulated by turning the tolets main water valve down.... squirt ! squirt ! ahhhh ! much better !

I have to say, that I am very grateful that my toilet has a hose. It has saved my ass quite a few times already. One food poisoning incident sent me to the toilet about 15 times, after the fifth time, ouch! no more toilet paper.

All the things you never really wanted to know...
Yeah, the hose is a nice option in certain situations... makes a nice feeling actually, if you can't get a rimming from a TG... haha
Also just great solution for eliminating any skid marks...
A skinny regular of mine once explained that she uses the hose for al little 'chuck whow' (masturbation) every once in a while (and did a little presentation)

I've seen shoe prints on the toilet seat. Is the hose jet strong enough to remove shoe marks on the toilet rim? How do you keep from falling in when squatting on a western style toilet? I've seen some farm fresh girls squat on the western style toilets.

A water jet from a spray hose wont remove shoe marks on the tolet set or rim. Was your Go-Go Girl wearing high heeled boots without her undies on, Again ?

To prevent yourself from falling in the loo... lower the toilet seat on the rim, turn around, unzip and sit on the seat while spacing your feet apart firmly on the ground to get a counter balance going.
