Cheap Chalee Mai Dee

Gentlemen, I done some searching on the net concerning portable hard drives. I was just wondering if anyone had bought one in Thailand and what size and price. There was one model that needed to be updated as far as software that was made in Thailand. What I am looking for is something at least 80 gig or bigger that is small and portable. Most of the 200 up sizes are large and cost in the range of $500.00 USD. Any info appreciated.

Are you talking about an external USB or firewire hard drive for a desktop machine, or are you looking for a hard drive to put in a laptop?

USB type, about the size as a 3x5 card with no power required. Use it for moving data from work to home and back. Plus picking up some music & pictures. Also if have both USB and Firewire no problem.

Cheap Chalee Mai Dee: Check out "yesasia.com" for prices of mp3 players. Because I've been told that some double as portable usb storage devices as well so you can also transfer files to the player. http://global.yesasia.com/en/...mp3+player JNC is one of the newest models in Hong Kong. I heard they are coming out with a 1 gig model. THe 512 is around $360. But, you might be able to find it cheaper in Thailand. http://global.yesasia.com/en/...section-electronics/ I'd also send BK a PM and ask him. I know he has one that he got in Thailand, but I forgot the brand and storage space.

Cheap Chalie, I use a Buslink USB 2.0 "Disk-on-the-go" Lite 60 GB. But...some laptops do not provide sufficient juice through the USB port. However, you can purchase what is called a "Y-cable" for the USB port that also plugs into an available PS2 port (such as un used keyboard/mouse port and provides the additional juice required. A power adapter is available that provides 7.5 VDC at 1.2 amps. Buslink sells a variety of USB/Firewire/USB-Firwire combo external "pocket drives" that may fit your needs.

Nice to know that MP3 players double as hard disk players and 1 gig models are in the making... Quite irrelevant....

Chalee... why not just go for the Datastor from Pocketec? It's not available in Thailand, but I bought one in the US thru a friend who just airmailed it to me and it came thru fine. This is an awesome little machine that quickly becomes indispensible once you have one, especially if you own more than one puter. Small, light, rugged, fast... great technology. Runs off a single USB port on "most" laptops, but includes a second USB power cable for supplementary power for those situations where one port doesn't push enough juice.
