Bought 3 porn DVD's at pantip last week, got them home to Canada and guess what? They will not play in my DVD player, but they do play on my computers DVD player. Also, has anybody else noticed that the escalators are running backwards at Pantip these days?

Clearly, these DVDs have tracking issues. I had a similar issue, with them not playing on my computer, but they do play on my DVD player. It's the nature of the beats. If they play on your computer, make an image, and burn them again. What do you mean the escalators run backwards? Harry

Some DVD's are in the PAL format not NTSC as used in USA, Canada and elsewhere. Most computers will play both types, but most DVD players used in the USA and Canada will not. I would recommend you keep you laptop's batteries charged.

It may be because your DVDs and player are from different regions. DVD players (unless they are unlocked) have regional locks as described in the link below to prevent them from playing disks from other regions as an anti-piracy protection. http://www.dvddemystified.com/dvdfaq.html#1.10 "What are "regional codes," "country codes," or "zone locks"?.Therefore they required that the DVD standard include codes to prevent playback of certain discs in certain geographical regions. Each player is given a code for the region in which it's sold. The player will refuse to play discs that are not coded for its region....Seven regions... 1: U.S., Canada, U.S. Territories 2: Japan, Europe, South Africa, and Middle East (including Egypt) 3: Southeast Asia and East Asia (including Hong Kong) 4: Australia, New Zealand, Pacific Islands, Central America, Mexico, South America, and the Caribbean 5: Eastern Europe (Former Soviet Union), Indian subcontinent, Africa, North Korea, and Mongolia 6: China 7: Reserved 8: Special international venues (airplanes, cruise ships, etc.) "

I don't think it's a code thing. I've bought dvds from panthip in the past, where one will play on a Panasonic dvd but refuse to play on a toshiba. And the same one will readily play on a laptop. Best way then might simply be to connect one's laptop to the TV. On my last trip I bought about 7 dvds and all but one played fine.

Not a code thing for sure. most of the pirated copies are 'ALL'. It depends on the quality of the disc and the characteristics of your DVD player. Also if it's PAL and your TV/player is NTSC you should see at least something. My Sony DVD player 'eats' about everything, while my friends' Samsung has a real bad liking for pirated ones.

DrLove is correct, some of the later DVD players are much better at playing copies than the earlier machine. The new range of Panasonic ones (not a plug but I have one!) seem to play just about any DVD's.
