Nothing at all....just use your Dial Up connection wizard and open Internet Explorer

thanks yurune,
being that i'm not really tech/cptr-savvy, is this dial-up connection wizard particular to the prepaid brand i might use?  if i currently use aol and i go to bangkok, i can just buy a prepaid card/pkg and dial up using aol again?
thanks again in advance.

Excellent thread, was totally unaware that I could buy the JI stuff by the minute! Been trying to think of a good way to help my TGF with internet stuff while in BKK, as she has taken a computer class and needs to practice.

Of course, this creates a potential problem:

"Teellakja, eeeef haf internet in apartment, why you go Coffee World at Soi Nana?"

"Ah, well, ah ..."

Prepaid packages give good instructions with diagrams; it connects you to the internet (not to aol), and you won't have the aol handholding.  So please don't think you will be dialing aol.  You will be connected to a local ISP (internet service provider); from there, it is up to you which site you visit.  For aol, bit uncertain, but guess if you go to http://www.aol.com, then sign in, you should be ok.  My suggestion, try it at home before you leave, like maybe at work, or an internet cafe at home, so you don't have the aol frontend initially.

The wizard is for any new connection; the packages give you what to click and how to answer as you use the wizard.

You might have to go in and set up some parameters on your modem to not look for a dial tone before it dials (especially if you're coming from US).  But other than that, it's pretty straight forward.  Again, before you leave, you might ask a friend to show you how to change the modem parameters.  Might sound intimidating, but it's really not.

You did not specify which OS you're using.

CWR, modem access is still quite expensive ... ranging from 1.600 for 20 hours (or so) for 256k connection to TH 8,000+ for 100 hours on 1024k connection.

You buy the modem from an afiliate of telecom asia and internet time from ISP's (KSC, Loxinfo, ANet).

Also, not everywhere in Bangkok two way in available. You should live in an area where UBC is available.

It really doesn't matter which OS you use ....

You have nothing to install, just use the dial up application in your OS and enter the user/pass combination ...

Yes, Dr Love is correct, as long as you are windows based, no problem.  Instructions are on booklet that comes in package, they will show you how to use wizard to make connection.  But like I say, you might just need to know how to tell your modem not to wait for a dial tone.  You might want to double click on My Computer, look at Dial Up Networking folder, in there, see Make New Connection.  See if you are comfortable stepping through that wizard; if not, ask some friends while still at home.

Hello

Great thread just what I have been looking for

Hope there are no stupid Q in here I will have a go.

I think I get the Ji instuctions from you guys  sounds pretty easy just wondering about a couple of things.

Is this possible fron any phone line from any hotel  without having to ask the hotel where I am staying.

And this will not influence my phone bill at that hotel because i dial a special number to lets say  JI so there will be no phonebill charge from the hotel.

Some hotels you need to dial a number to phone out 0 for example will that make it a problem.

Also how is the connections in speed and relaiability is it good connections  I have a 56kp modem witch I guess is pretty normal.

Thanks  neonthai
