Thanks for info Yurune! Garmin is a very good but expensive system. Wouldn't buy it. I'm looking for a PDA based system... But the good news is that there are GPS maps of LOS that work !

Quote: from stuckinapub on 1:08 am on Jan. 18, 2006 santa clause was nice to me and I got a Garmin gpsmap 60cs
Mr Pub, How has this worked out? Is the gadget useful in Bangkok? I tried a Garmin Foretrex 201 recently. It's about the size of a pager, and doesn't have any map viewing capacity. In some surroundings it will stay in sync while carried in a shirt pocket. I'd downloaded things like BTS station coordinates, and was thinking it might be usable as a smart compass or a way to figure out where I was last night. The foretrex 201 wasn't able to keep in synch with satellites in the nightspot areas of Bangkok. Not much sky is visible. Rain awnings are often metal. The gap between buildings and sky train is sometimes only a couple of meters. Is your 60CS any better in these conditions? A bluetooth GPS and a PDA with maps does sound interesting, but I don't know if it would be useful without some kind of tinfoil dish-antennae hat.... SidWenes

http://www2.mapking.com/en/MK7/MK7_Dowload_Eng.htm You can get a 5 day free trial of the PC version of the mapping software and Bangkok - English map. You can find points of interest such as hotels and even MP's... Posidon, Emmanuelle, Osaka (not updated with Tarawadee name and spelling is odd sometimes... Cliophatta!). Others such as Caesars, Colonze, Amsterdam are not marked. But you can add your own points of interest... just point and right click at the location on the map. Add 2 points of interest to a Route and it marks the shortest or fastest way. I will have my MP itinerary all mapped out by the time I get to BKK. Costs $35 USD to get registration code. You purchase the Pocket PC version. I just might have to purchase a PDA running Windows Mobile with GPS card/or GPS built-in to see how the GPS would work with this map in the streets of BKK - I arrive in BKK first of September for a month.
