That Law has existed in Aus for quite a few years already.
Recently it has been added, that if any P=plate ( less than 3 years experience) gets caught,,LICENSE CANCELLED.
Hands free basic unit,,, maybe 80 BAHT?
Lets face it,, most Thai's are bad enough drivers without any un-needed distractions.

There have been tests in Europe comparing the remaining driving skills of people deliberately drunk beyond 1.5 0/00 and people being asked difficult questions on a mobile phone while driving. The drunk were much better drivers than the talking people who literally steered into the pylons again and again. There was no significant difference between hand held mobiles and built-in phones etc.
The funny thing is, that a personal conversation in the car doesn't necessarily have the same effect because someone in the car realises anything distracting the driver’s attention, they share the perception so to speak. A mobile phone conversation can completely absorb a person’s concentration… or at least gets the higher mental attention which is fine as long as nothing unexpected happens on the street…
If that law is of any good in this crazy country’s daily traffic chaos is totally different question...

Exactly. What most people never quite seem to figure out is that it makes virtually no difference if it's in your hand or not, it's what's on your brain that really matters. You're either focused on the road or you're focused on your conversation, not both. It amazes me how hard it is for most people to understand such a simple concept as that.
