Quote: from Sarge on 2:47 am on July 24, 2008 VLC Player - an open source video streaming solution, It can play MPEG, DVD, AVI and pretty much any sub format you throw at it (including DivX, XviD, etc.). Plus it’s free!
And it also plays the.mkv format, plus it supports subtitles for the movies, either the.srt or.sub &.idx format. (Thanks to Daffy for that tip).

Wonderful, ain't it! Very handy once you've found your treasure using the native search function in Bit Rocket BitTorrent client.

yes VLC plays those formats and a lot more. One feature that has over players like QT is that it has a much louder volume control. back to topic: one of the new & charming feature introduced in the last OS X 10.5 Leopard is Stacks. Stacks are folders that live on your dock. When you click them, they spring up in either a fan or a grid. Then, when you click one of them, that file opens and the stack jumps back down onto the dock. You can add whatever folders you want. I have my applications folder and my documents folder as stacks. I just click to spring open my application stack and there they all are. I could add one for my pictures, my music, my videos, easily customised.

Wow, Sarge, looks like you have done your homework! The authorized service provider in Rama 3 sucks a**, IMHO. My favourite technician is a Thai guy who works in Panthip, at a place called 1-2-Mac or 1-2-Apple. It's one floor down from all the Apple shops, and a bit hidden away. He's the only Apple Mac tech guy I've met over here who actually knows what he is doing.

welcome in patinbangkok and thanks for your feedback on Apple dealers in BKK. To help us all avoiding bad resellers, can you tell us what issue/problems did you have with that dealer?

The place on Rama 3 is NOT a reseller, but a repair center authorized by Apple. AFAIK, they are (were?) the only one in Bangkok. Had a hardware problem with my laptop, and every single Panthip Plaza shop I went to for help said "cannot" and handed me a flyer with name/address of the Rama 3 place on it. At the time (ca. 2005) they also carried out repairs for the Apple shop at Siam Discovery. Problem was: the staff was totally incompetent, and not helpful at all. The only thing that helped in the end was complaining to Apple Singapore. They suggested to contact Apple Thailand. When I told them I'd already tried to, but that they'd never returned my calls (I'd left numerous messages), they were pissed off, and promised to take care of it. Ten minutes later I did get a call from Apple Thailand.

Try this, if that wasn't the contact you already used at the time: Phakpoom Setarath Country Manager Apple Computer (Thailand) Ltd. Tel. (662) 627-9092 Fax. (662) 627-9001 HP. (661) 835-1284 e-Mail: phakpoom@asia.apple.com Very disconcerting that Apple Thailand blew you off at the time, but glad that Singapore responded well... Squeaky wheel, and all of that...

DaffyDuck: "Very disconcerting that Apple Thailand blew you off at the time, but glad that Singapore responded well..." Man, was I disappointed at the time. Especially since I used to work for an Apple Authorized Reseller / Repair Center back in Europe, and feel very strongly about the brand. The experience with the Authorized Repair Center was unfortunately just as bad! :-( I told them: I used to do the job you guys are doing, so no need to bullshit me. Didn't help... I hadn't worked in the industry for over four years, and still I knew more than the technicians employed there. Ouch! Again: the guy at 1-2-Mac (or 1-2-Apple) rocks! Highly recommended.
