I had the same problem when I was there in Nov. The staff at The Manhattan hotel let me use a power converter (some big heavy thing that did not work) for my trimmer. The thing had so much juice it sounded like it was going to blow up. Don't want to take any more chances. I will get one before I go next time. Maybe from ebay for about $10 US. http://search.ebay.com

Rest easy - I use a sonicare as well and the chargers are multi-voltage 100V-240V. I've used it in Japan (100V), home (110V) and SE Asia (220-240V) with no issues.
