I hope I don't violate the board's etiquette by "reviving" this thread, but it is right on topic - and I still have some questions. I was planning on buying a prepaid SIM in BK in order to send and receive international SMS (not necessarily ICQ) from BK and Samui. Can someone please advice me if that is possible at all - and if so, by which provider? It was also suggested that it might be necessary to explicitely grant SMS access to your counterparts in order to receive their messages. How can this be done? And last but not least: How knowledgable is Thai sales staff when it comes to phone shops, i.e. can the info they give you be trusted (or should I always treat it as a sales pitch) ? I hope someone can help me soon (13 days ...) Thanks

Too late, I know. (-: Any PrePaid SIM card will do, though the best and cheapest is DTAC/HappyDprompt. 3 baht per International, compared to 9 baht for AIS/One2Call. Make sure your mobile is compatible with GSM/PCN1800. The vendor will check this for you.

Can anyone help me please. I am trying to find a way that I can send an SMS from the web rather than from a cell phone. I saw an esms website but it appears that I cannot send to a number that begins with 66-. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated. THX Cyborg

Forgot to mention, I am trying icq but not having much luck. Maybe due to the fact I use a Mac. have not found anything on this site to suggest they are Mac compatible or not. Cyborg

Cyborg Try Yahoo Messanger, and ICQ, both are free and work pretty good. Not perfect but better than most. Esmszone and other pay site is ok but does not offer any advantage over the free service.

Goodness, you use a Mac? This should be easy then as long as: - you use Mac OS X 10.2 (preferably 10.3) - you have a Bluetooth phone - your Mac has a Bluetooth connection. Activate the Bluetooth connection on your AddressBook on the Mac. ONce that is done, find the person you want to send an SMS to, click on their mobile number, and select 'send SMS message' from the drop-down menu. Compose your message. Send away. (NOTE: The numbers in the address book need to be in GSM international format, i.e. start with the countr code preceded by a +) (in other words, Thai numbers start with +66, and US numbers start with +1). Hope this helps, Harry
