In Aug 2005 I bought a Software for my Pocket PC PDA called PowerMap V.7 for about 5000 Baht. Thailand Map only. The Software and the manual is in engl. and thai. I used to make my money with GPS Receiver and Software in Europe, so I can say that the function is defently not so good as you know it from Europe, USA or Australia. It is okay and works most of the time. Maybe you can see newer systems at the comming Motor Show in BKK. The Webpage from the company where I got the map from is http://www.aitsnav.com.

Was recently in Hong Kong and one of my mates was running MapKing on his smartphone (w/Bluetooth GPS device), impressive product. I may invest in their Tokyo map next visit.

You can get a 5 day free trial of the PC version of the mapping software and Bangkok - English map.
You can find points of interest such as hotels and even MP's... Posidon, Emmanuelle, Osaka (not updated with Tarawadee name and spelling is odd sometimes... Cliophatta!).

On my Sept trip, I couldn't get MapKing running on my Pocket PC/GPS device to lock on to the sattelites.
But during the Christmas trip, it locked on every time in just a few seconds.
Used it to navigate as I walked to the Maliryn MP. Worked like a charm.
I think the MapKing software is one of the best I have seen, as it includes so many valuable points of interest already mapped... as I mentioned earlier.
