At least you won't lose too much money that way, at 7,000 Baht. I'm sure you might be able to recoup your expense on eBay, later on.

I'd be interested to read your review of it, once you pick it up -- are they that readily available?

No, neither - dumb, because if your only motivation is to be able to pose - that's dumb.

You'd buy one of the best, if not THE best device of its kind, only to be a poser? Dumb.

It runs regular email, not requiring a specialized server to massage your mail.

You can configure it for: Yahoo Mail (which provides instant 'push' delivery) ; Google's Gmail; Apple's Dot-Mac; AOL Mail.

Furthermore, it supports any regular IMAP or POP account, and if your IMAP account is configured for IMAP-IDLE, you get push/instant delivery as well;

And you don't have to pick and choose, or be limited to one or the other - you can configure for any number of accounts - and they will synch with whatever you have your desktop email client configured for. In other words, configured your desktop mail client for all you want, tell the sync software which accounts you want sync'd with the iPhone, sync, and you're done.

For my needs, the Blackberry email would have been passably adequate; having a real email MTA on my handheld make a world of difference - pair that with having a real Web browser available, and you have a pretty unbeatable combination.

Going to be in HKG later this week and will get a Meizu, seems around 7000 baht for the starter model, 4GB.

Seems like the Meizu M8 (the only one worth considering) will run you around $700+ dollars. Not quite sure if that is such a better deal compared to the iPhone's prices.

iPhone announced for the UK market!

- iPhone coming to the U.K. November 9th
- Will cost £269 and be available from Apple Retail stores and the Carphone Warehouse.
- 8GB model, EDGE not 3G (so the same model as the US).
- iTunes WiFi Music Store will of course come with the iPhone.
- O2 is the exclusive carrier
- Contracts cost £35, £45 or £55 a month and include unlimited (within fair-use)
- 'fair-use' is 1,400 web pages per day (which is reasonable)
- WiFi at The Cloud hotspots and EDGE & GPRS on O2.

Might be reasonable but it sure ain’t unlimited.

Call it unlimited and then put a limit on it?

Go figure - I guess the folks in the UK better read the fine print to avoid the £1000 phone bills as well.

Well, it seems lately that the interpretation of 'unlimited' has become just another marketing droid buzzword

In the US, both Sprint and Verizon provide portable EVDO service, essentially, 3G to go, with ExpressCards - both have the same monthly cost, both claim 'unlimited'. Verizon caps the 'unlimited' at 2GB per month, and will cancel your service when you go over it; Sprint actually means what they say, and let you feed as much as you want at the trough.

I picked Sprint, and told Verizon to f*** off -- despite Verizon dropping the initial charge for their modem to almost half of Sprint's. Now that I'm with SPrint, for that service, I'm actually quite satisfied, and do use more than 2GB a month of the service, but not by much (Sprint's bills tell you your usage, Verizon's apparently do not). Sprint gained a customer, Verizon never had a chance.

I really wish more service providers understood that simple concept - you provide unlimited, and you will attract more users, but only a very small percentage will actually take advantage of that.

I am sure they cap the “unlimited” usage because there are those that do/ would abuse the service. But if that is the case the companies should not be able to call it “unlimited”. I have heard of the same type of thing with internet, and cable internet service as well. Regardless of the type of service (phone, internet, cable) it should not be allowed to continue and should never have been allowed to take place in the first place. The really is not much ambiguity as to the meaning of the word “unlimited” and it should be pretty clear when it is appropriate to use the term in advertising as well as when it should be illegal to use the term in advertising (small print or no small print).
