I have never thought that paying BT200 to park at Nana hotel was a scam. Imagine if it was Bt50 and you turned up at midnight there would be no place to park.
It is the best and most convenient place to park and it is priced at a premium.
And that premium is still nothing compared to the west.
I always park there for the price of a beer.

Gotta understand gents,
Some of the posters here are working as 'English teachers', running web-sites for click-through ad revenue, and/or trying to stretch a fixed-income annuity. That being the case they must cut corners and squeeze as much out of every baht that they can.
They live in tiny apartments with minimal furnishings, eat at food stalls, and complain about the rising price of beer and women.
I mean God forbid that they move back to Farangland and get a 'real' job. Hell they are living in paradise, aren't they  ...

Very accurate. But the only possible gap in your analysis relevant to the OP is that most of these people don't own or drive cars in Bangkok. How could they?

I, too, have gotten some minutes of amusement at erik's expense and incoherent post. And, like you, I also wonder where he is now. Poor little feller reading this expanding thread he's started about a scam that's not really a scam. But what more can he say? He doesn't want to give out the details on his plan for ultimate revenge. Watch the papers!
MTK: you could be right. The overall tone of his post makes it difficult to accept, especially at first, but I think it's possible. Wonder about his threat though.

Actually for English teachers and many of the fixed-annuity types I have met a car is a requirement. They generally live in the remote areas of BKK not well served by mass-transit. They need to be able to commute to work (and the schools may be off the transportation grid), do shopping, etc.
Cars can be obtained relatively cheaply here is LOS if you are not picky about age or size. Fuel can be an issue but if you plan your trips the cost can be minimized. In the long-run it is cheaper and more reliable than cabs.
However the auto expense puts even more pressure on their budgets making it even harder to make ends meet. With rising fuel prices and a dropping exchange rate I guess that these people will have to start cutting some expenses.... food maybe????
Oh well, that's 'life in paradise' I guess...

The English teachers that I seen seem to have that just rolled out of bed look in their worn old suit, yellowing white shirt and wide tie back from the 60's that they kept so long that it is back in style. The can be seen holding on for dear life on the back of a motorcycle taxi.
Cars are not cheap in LOS especially on their salaries nor is the maintenace, operation or insurance.
Forget about the price of 200 THB for parking. It is only 20 baht for parking and 180 THB for protection from all the drunks and others from causing damage or vandalism to your car let alone theft. Maybe Erik cars was not worth the price of the protection money.
CS. I would like to know what you are basing your relative to? Singapore? Relative to the USA cars are f***ing expensive.

Again, CS, thinks he knows everything about Thailand but stands so far from reality.
Indeed, most (English) teachers don't have cars. They use (depending on their remuneration) motorcycles, taxis or public transportation.
And, yes, second hand cars are much more expensive in Thailand than in countries like the US or Holland.
