I've never found a place in Thailand where AIS GPRS/Edge did not work. Even in some remote places (well, as remote as you can get and still be in Thailand), there was always service. Sometimes fast, sometimes not, but very reliable. Especially handy in places like Koh Nang Yuan or Koh Tarutao, where Internet is either very expensive or not available. I could not believe the speed I got on Edge on Tarutao it was faster and more reliable that the Internet cafe which charged 3 baht/minute! It even worked great at my "secret place" that has the best beach in Thailand and almost no farang!
At 50 baht for 6 hours, it the the best buy in Thailand!

Same as my findings - AIS has always provided connectivity even in remote locales. The problem used to be that they had shitty GPRS/EDGE offerings (or, communicated them badly), but that appears to have changed with the recent promotions on EDGE/GPRS plans that are applicable to pre-paid cards.
Now, of course, the big question become - where is CG's 'secret place'

Yes, I always use it with a normal 1-2-call SIM not with a postpaid or special SIM.
