I have a source that will pay 21,000 baht for a sealed 8GB phone 1.1.1, as many as I can bring over they will buy from me. The thai classified websites are even selling the non-unlockable 1.1.2 OTB (OOB) 4.6 BL phones for 21k sealed. 1.1.1 phones are definitely the ones to get. The phones are definitely not under $500. Most prices I hear are 20-25k. Price on the unlocked phones will probably be going up toward Christmas until they figure out how to unlock the 1.1.2 OTB phones.

Bua Tong (golden lily) but it is written in Thai. My mate purchased one there last Sunday. 1.1.1, they loaded it up with his choice of stuff from their files, unlocked (obviously) 20 000baht. Asking 21500 before he bargained.

I bought a Meizu in Hong Kong a while back and like it. The iphone is great for a Mac guy, the Meizu better for a PC person IMHO.

Daffyduck, that is the offshore exchange rate. The onshore rate you can get is about 33.80 currently. There's another good thread about onshore and offshore rates. 
There are a lot of buyers for 20k baht per phone, not just at MBK. I have no problem moving these phones.

I know gals that make 10k a month and they will save up all their money to buy an Iphone or some other expensive phone. They won't get a passing grade in home economics but then again, how many Thai people would? Most I know just make money and spend money, no savings...

They may have an easy payment plan. I remembered a TG sobbing over a 20 K Baht mobile phone that she lost, and she said that she still had to make another 5 more payments of 2,000 B.
